Hi All,

Just after a bit of guidance and or advice really. To explain;

5 minutes into a drive this afternoon (up to say 80 on a dual carriageway) the temp gauge hit 120 degrees, the warning alarm came on and then proceeded to fall back to 90 degress quite quickly. As soon as the buzzer came on, went into neutral and coasted to a stop. Anyway opened the bonnet, checked for steam and all that, and there's nothing obvious and the temp gauge was staying at 90 degrees. Oh yes, and the reserve tank is fine, plenty of coolant in there.

So back out onto the dual carriageway and back up to 80, and it goes and does it again straight away round to 110 degrees this time and then back down to 90. During the rest of the trip, all in the town, so stop start etc, the gauge never moved as you would normally expect.

Popped into Halfords and picked up a new thermostat thinking this may be the cause - but having read the thread on replacing the thermostat on a Audi TT http://forums.audiworld.com/tt/msgs/1304805.phtml I thought I'd try here first to see if anyone can give me any clues. (I've not got a long enough socket extension for a start)

Not sure if it's significant, but yesterday the audible warning came on as soon as I started the car. (turn off the engine and start it again and it's fine.) It's happened before, but I think I rectified that a few years ago by changing the Temperature ?????? for one of the green top ones. (I know you know what I mean - my mind's gone blank. :confused:)

Hope someone can help, or offer some guidance.

Cheers
Mark
