Model Year 22/23 Hi Revs on startup

So when getting into the car and starting it up for the first time I have noticed the car idling at reva around the 1k mark or just over which I think is normal before about a min or so later dropping slightly to what I would describe as normal revs.

However if I drove straight from start up the car seems to keep hold of first gear upto 2k revs and it sounds like I’m revving the balls off it.

It is a DSG 1.5 petrol V2.

The DSG box has always felt clumsy at low speed as if a drunk person was driving it. Seems to either hold gears too long or just feel like it doesn’t know what it is doing - I’m guessing this is a trademark of DSG?

Anyone know why - surely to protect the engine it should change gear rather than rev high?

I know it may be advisable to let it warm up but this is not always practicable.

Does the DSG transmission in the 1.5 Formentor have a sport setting? If so, then when it’s in the ‘S’ setting it’ll hold onto the engine revs for longer before changing up to the next gear.

So maybe you‘ve inadvertently selected the sport setting for the transmission?

No it’s always in normal setting just for that reason due to wanting a smoother less revvy drive.

If the car is cold and you drive away instantly more or less as per my understanding auto/dsg will hold on to lower gears.
Which speeds up the engine heating process and bring it up to the operational temp quicker.
Compared to when you leave the car idling.
It is good though to start the car and leave it running for few secs. before driving so at least oil circulation is done.
Leaving car idle for more won't bring the car to the required operating temp alone.
How do gears feel when say after 15min of driving? Is it still in the lower gears and revs high?
Is that 1.5 hybrid car? Maybe a characteristic trying to charge battery?

No that sounds spot on. Non hybrid. Feels fine after a while just a bit clumsy around the second gear culdesac slow driving as if it doesn’t know what gear to be in. I sometimes manually shift to 2nd or 3rd gear if it behaves and lets me!

Not sure if it's a VWG thing but I certainly experienced it with my V2 as well as my current VZN. I've now made it a habit not to move the car till the revs drop which isn't ideal and makes me late half the time haha
