I think maybe you got 2 problems. First up, something is vibrating. Second I think you got a split in a boost hose somewhere. First one I don't know about really withput more info. Second one, inspect all the boost hoses and squeeze them / bend them on the curves etc. and see if you can find a split somewhere.

Check the engine mounts, especially the drivers side one that sits under the header tank, see if that has collapsed, usually they collaps and the mount to the engine is sat on top of the spring mount on the chassis leg.
Also when they do go there's a huge amount of play in the engine from back to front, this can stress the boost pisps, might be bending out of it's fixing or damaging the exhaust so that a louder whistle would be heard ;)

Do you think the smoke is noticable? Is it major?
When i noticed more smoke than usual i tried some Wynns Injector cleaner (halfords sell it). That did the job for me!
With regards to the vibrating... When does it actually happen? in full lock?

Check the rubber mounts holding the air filter in place they have a tendancy to wear especially on the nearside (passesnger door side) easily tested:

park you car as normal and leave engine running in neutral, pop the bonnet, ask a mate to accelerate revs slowly to approx 1200 until the vibration occurs while you hold/gently rock the air filter housing, if this is the problem you'll notice it ceases when you move the filter box away from the wing.
