Help!! Weird Speedo Problem

Hi all –
I’ve just got my LC back from the garage and it’s developed a rather nasty fault: the all the gauges (speedo, rev temp and fuel) aren’t working and neither are the headlights.

The weird thing is that everything else is working fine: indicators, main beam flash etc.

It’s obviously going back to the garage, but I’d rather fix it myself then do the 60mile round trip (plus I can’t get it in ‘till next week.)

The only errors I can see on the instrument sector of VAGcom are 00771 (64-10), 00771 (29-10) and 01039 (29-00)

Sounds like a loose connection on the back of the light switch. I'm guessing here, but perhaps the dash gets its power from the connector that pushes on to the back of the main light on/off/fogs switch.

The dash is essentially electrical, with few (if any) mechanical connections. So no power, no guages.

Mine used to do this occasionally, and stopped soon after I checked all the connections to the switches around the drivers side dash.

Huum, could be a couple of thing wrong then, I know if you completely detach the light switch the dials still work though (forgot to plug it back in once.)

Nah! Get your multimeter out!

check the fuses as well! i havnt checked but it is possible (if unlikely) that the headlights are on a fuse with the dash.
