Right Im seriosuly pissed of. Thought I had a clutch release bearing going however since fitting the quiet exhuast Ive noticed how bad the gearbox is sounding.:censored::censored::censored:[:@]
Turns out it is bascially going to implode soon so I need a new gearbox for a 2004 Cupra R 225.

Does anybody know of any place likely to have one?
Does anybody know the codes that will fit or any other car that will have a gearbox the same?

I only got the car two weeks ago and its 17days out of warranty.

Did you buy it off of someone from here?
AFAIK its a 2M gear box, not too sure what other models have it but could check ETKA if you want??

Im going to go in past tomorrow and see what they say. It was a private sale but has had full Seat service history plus its only done 17k miles. The guy at the garage today did say it was rare for this box to go.

PM KarlosR - he had the same box go on his.

thanks for bringing back the painful memories pat :p my gearbox went at around 46k. i noticed that my box was getting louder and didn't sound healthy at all. i had it looked at and the drainage plug was so loose that it was close to falling out and there was hardly any oil in there. i got that sorted but where the box had nearly ran dry the internals had heated up and got brittle so 4th, 5th and the lay shaft met their maker.
i managed to get another low mileage box for £520 but i needed a new clutch kit as well so with labour on top it cost me over a grand!

My car was out of warranty the day I got the keys; over the next two weeks of ownership I noticed a grinding noise. It turned out to be the gearbox. The dealership with my car appealed to seat uk who agreed supply a new gearbox free of charge (my car with full service history and low miles). The garage I purchased my car from (Toyota garage) only had to pay around £500 for fitting.
:D

Its booked into the local Seat garage and Im going to try and claim if its the gearbox. Would the flywheel (if that is to blame) be covered by warranty as its not really a wear and tear item is it?

At 17k, FSH and only just out of warranty, then you've got a good case to go to Seat UK - a goodwill payment might come your way. It's obviously been on it's way out a while.....

If you bought from a trader, then the Sales of goods act will protect you from major failure - traders are legally obliged to provide 6 months (or is it 3) of major defect warranty - call Consumer Direct for advice (they're really helpful)

Update on this. Has the car into the garage and they said it sounded like clutch release bearing. Even though the car was on 17k I thought I should change the clutch out as well so ordered the full kit.
Got a call this morning to say the box was off and the car had a Helix clutch and uprated flywheel fitted!!! That'll be why it was rattling.
Annying thing is I obviosuly had to pay for labour and have a new clutch kit sitting doing feck all. If anybody wants a brand new Seat LCR clutch kit get in touch.

I'm starting to wonder whoose car this was - weitecs, zorst, helix clutch and flywheel.

Fairly pricey mods to just leave on the car...

If they had uprated the clutch on such a low mileage car, it must have been someone with big plans!

Just what I was thinking. Got a feeling it might have been remapped as well now. The first owner only had it for ~8k miles and must have added all the extras.
