Driving home last night was all pretty normal until my red light flashed and bleeped and my engine temp was on max. pulled over and popped bonnet all seems ok, no smoke, no fluid leeking. However fans not wrkin? let her cool down then drove agen, 10 mins later same happened. now on examination this morning i noticed the following:

no fans working
coolant level in expansion tank rising

now i think replacing fan swittch will help first but what is causing the level in expansion tank to rise?

could it be thermosat? head gasket? blockage in coolant system~?

help me out guys

Have u checked the fuse board on top of battery? as there are three fuses the furthest one on the right out of the three controls ur fans. Common fault for these to melt causing fans to stop working and car to overheat with expansion tank to fill up as if there was an airlock! This happens to every cupra owner i know so worth checking? Were u stoped in traffic when it was overheating as if u were driving with no stoping the fans would not need to come on as u would be achieving maximum airflow which would maintain running temp! Start your car cold with expansion tank cap off and hold revs to around 2000 rpm then see if coolant is running?at least then u can see if water pump is working and clear any airlocks you may have in your system! If water pump in need of replacing upgrade to metal type much stronger! cheers :D
