Help abs and traction control light still on!

Help,

Abs/traction control light permanently onn!

My friend is a mechanic. Who recently mot'd and change the cambelt for me. Whilst in the garage he looked at my drivers side front caliper for me as it was rubbing om the disk. He managed to sort the caliper giving it adequate clearance.

Everything was running fine for around 80 miles, but then the abs and traction controllight came on. My friend hooked it up to diagnose it and it came up with an abs sensor issue to the drivers side front abs sensor.

My friend has cleaned the ring on the bearing and has now changed the sensor, cleared the code, but the lights have come back on!

Am I looking at a new bearing/ ring?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks

Mark

You need to re scan it to see if it's the same one or another one, it could also be the wiring if it's the same one.:)

Right so must be in the wiring to the sensor unless the sensor got damaged during fitting, in my experience the reluctor ring doesn't usually throw a fault but makes ther pedal feel very strange.:)

Sorry for the late reply, he basically took the calliper of and adjusted it slightly.

I'm still no further forward with getting this sorted, as my friend ha been to bus to have a look and I've been away.

I've been reading in places about maybe a fuse blown? I have checked the fuse inside the dash which is fine, how ever this has now brought on the engine management light, doh, is this normal.? I haven't checked the one under the bonnet as it's getting dark quick.

Does any one think this could be a cause, giving the description?

Thanks

Mark

Well the one in the box on the battery certainly does get a reputation for fracturing due to mechanical stress rather than getting "blown" by excess current, so maybe you should check that one for an almost invisible fracture (maybe use a DMM)

I just read the first post again, what do you mean rubbing on the disc? The caliper shouldn't be able to rub on the disc and it's not adjustable  Need more info on that one, maybe even a pic of what you mean.:)

Hi
My son has an 1.2 2004 Ibiza which has been fine for the last two years.

But it has now developed a fault with the brakes the Abs is on all the time and have had it into a local garage who changed a ABS lead @£85.00 .
It was OK for a day and now it has started to come back on again and the garage are now looking at a new ABS pump which is £1000.

I have been looking on e-bay for a second hand unit and I was hoping if anyone could tell me if I could use any 2004-2006 unit on his car or do I need to try and source the same numbers as on his cars pump,or if anyone has any thought on the brake issue as the garage did not seem over sure what the problem was in the first place.

We have done the general servicing on the car but I am more at home working on motorbikes so I am hopping that an owner with more experience of the Ibiza can help us out

You really need to get it scanned with vag com.

There is a list on this site of people with it.

Search in the thread to see if there is someone near by that will scan it.

I find dealers just pick a random part sometimes and say "hey... why don't we try replacing that today"... that's why I never use them anymore... been stung too many times!

Thanks for all you suggestions.
The garage did take the car to someone with a tester and it came up as an abs problem so that is why they put on a new abs lead on the car which seemed to fix it .
My son drove 50 miles to Leeds festival and the car was Ok.

It was parked up for 4 days then on the return trip the abs started to come back on when he was braking ,then it stayed on all the time making a noise when he was driving. Now it has gone quiet but the abs light on the dash is on all the time.

When I last spoke with the garage I was told if the new lead did not fix it the we would need a new pump.

I have seen 2 on e-bay with almost the same number on them (6Q0614117E) as the one on my son's car apart from the last letter so I was hoping if anyone new if these would do?

Just a update on our ABS problem .
After having the car for 5 weeks we have it back now.
First it was showing up as an ABS pump fault. Then an ECU fault with 3 companies getting involved with testing items.
The garage bought a second hand unit but this did not solve it.

It has now been found that the gap on one of the wheel sensors was wrong (near the bearing ) giving a fault code which the garage said was showing as the pump was at fault.
We have not got the bill yet but have been told that they will not charge for all the time and parts they have used as it has just been one of those jobs.

The mechanics all look pleased when we took the car away.

My issue turned to be the hub needed replacing as it was collapsing, causing the sensor to be out of sync, however after 4 weeks problem free, the lights have cone back on today!!! Frustrating or what. What I noticed last timewas that the car wasn't recording the distance properly and was showing that when I did a 30 mile journey, the car would only record it as 15 miles. How ever this time, I've noticed that the car is recording the distance correctly, making me think that the sensor is working correctly. I've heard that sometimes cars hold the issue for a few weeks and then can just bring up the fault again, even if there isn't really an issue. Does this sound possible?

Thanks for your thoughts

If the hub bearing was failing or had failed, and this was causing problems with the ABS sensor, then your garage would have replaced the hub assembly, so now maybe the ABS sensor is not fitted in correctly, or they just replaced the bearing set and did not fit it into the hub assembly correctly. Maybe too late for you now, but it sounds like that garage is not too conversant with these VAG cars.
