Hello, APR Tuning and Radio Codes

Hello there,

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. Been reading for a few days and finally found the need to actually register so i can make a post.

I have just bought a black 2004 Leon Cupra, lovely motor. Full electrically adjustable leather interior and all the toys. One thing its lacking however is cruise control, so i have booked my baby in to A V I T in slough to have this fitted next week.

They have offered me the free 6 hour APR tuning demo at the same time, to which i said yes. However talking to my mate who owns a vRS i am now in two minds about this. As i understand it after 6 hours it wont revert to MY STANDARD seat map, but will revert to APR's standard map, which may or may not be as good as the original.

Thinking about it logically, APR have no reason to make their standard 180bhp map particularly good because they want to flog their 230bhp upgrade. My question is... Is there any truth in this? And if so, has anyone had this done and was the car as good after the 6 hours was up as it was before? I have little intention of buying the full remap, as at 22years old my insurance is already a killer but i would like to play with it for 6 hours or so. But at the end of the day, i'm not willing to sacrifice my cars performance for the sake of 6 hours of fun.

Second question... (sorry this is getting quite long). I have somehow managed to lock my radio out. If i remember rightly i pressed the prog button (I was just playing) and it flashed up "2000" on the screen. I thought this was maybe the year (I dont know w hy i thought my radio would need to know the year) so pressed the ">" button 6 times until it read "2006".

When i turn the radio on, it now says "SAFE" and NO buttons do anything. I presume its in some sort of security mode, but the radio manual is rubbish. I dont think i have the code either...

Final question, my car came with 2 keys only. I didnt get the "Code Tag" which is mentioned in the manual. I have yet to ask the previous owner if he still has it, but how much of a problem is it if he hasnt....

Would appreciate your comments guys n gals.

Cheers
Jon (from West London).

With APR no problem it goes to 100% stock as before, yes is APR´s stock but is a copy of the original one... don´t worry...

the stereo code is found on the first page or the last one or at the back of your stereo manual... it´s printed on a sticker.. if not, you can go to a dealer and ask for it it´s FREE of charge... they will get you Vin code and ask for it to factory.

Same thing for the CODE TAG... a dealer can ask for it when needed. so no need to have it handy.

greetings.

I had the APR trial and my LCR felt much quicker from the outset. It was smooth and powerful. However, once the trial elapsed, I didn't actually realise a difference from their standard programme to the remap. Days went by and I was thinking "it must come off soon" but it just felt the same speed - weird really. I have since had the Jabba rolling road remap and that makes a huge difference. Oh, and before my Jabba RR I mapped at 230bhp. The car is 225 standard so, in my experience (others may disagree) the programme they put back on was fine. Ask Awesome Andy on here - nice lad.

When my APR trial reverted back to stock, the performance went back to standard and ran fine although my mpg dropped to 18mpg and stayed there for around 3 months:( . Now that I've got the full program on it's back up to 21mpg, Still not great but originally it was around 22/23mpg

Once you've had the trial though, you'll want the full program!!!:funk:

Nah, I am averaging 21mpg giving it beans fairly infrequently. I do, however, mainly do short journeys and on longer journey's e.g. Manchester - Sheffield, I can get 30mpg... If the Snake Pass is busy hehe. If it's a clear run, I'd be down to 18mpg.

That's with the missus commuting through the week in traffic.

Took it to newquay in the summer and got 35mpg there and back with the cruise set at 70
