Heated washer jets - fitting/wiring ?

Looking at the wiring diagram, they appear to be on permanently, which seems a daft idea.
Can't see them connected to a switch anywhere, looks like they get a feed from the Ignition Switch (if that's what D15 is), then through a fuse.

Unless I'm missing something :confused:

its harder to freeze a large body of water like that in the reservoir (esp if you have a decent concentration of screenwash ) than the smaller amount in nozzles / pipes

You don't need to worry about the washer bottle other than keeping enough screenwash to stop it freezing.
The jets are the problem, they freeze while driving due to windchill at speed.

A couple of years ago when I was in Denmark for winter, I used a high (over 75%) concentration of screenwash, was -15C on a warm night!!, the washer jets & bottle didn't freeze but, when the screenwash hit the screen, the wipers made a nice thin layer of water on the screen and it was that that froze! I had to have the demister on all the time to keep the screen warm enough so the water didn't freeze on it.

Vicious circle then though - the salt spray dries quicker if the heater's blowing at the screen, meaning you need to wash it more often....

Mind you at -15 I doubt there was much spray!

im sure if u bought the jets with the plugs attached , plus the other plugs to suit them ( ie so u have a pair of male/females) -no jokes jason. n then made up ur own loom of a pos n neg into the interior n a switch , ur bound to have a blank somewhere , job done , sod all that relay malarky , as long as u have the 12v+ fused you should be fine , either that or tap into an ignition live (and ur own fuse) , so when the ignition on ur defrosting

Wasn't too bad except where they'd gritted and some of the snow had melted abit. Felt like Luke Skywalker after a while and was using the force to guide myself around! Couldn't see out of the windscreen after all :D

From what I can make out of the diagram...

Fuse 19 in the fusebox is a 10A fuse which is on the switched supply and feeds net B135 with a 1.5mm black / red wire.

From this net you then have:
A 1mm black / red wire which connects to the two heated washers which are in parrallel, the other end of which are connected to GND. (page 17)
A 1mm black / red wire which connects to F4 which is the switch for the reversing lights on the manual gear box. (page 14) This then connects to the auto dimming rear view mirror so when you engage reverse the mirror stopps being dipped and the reversing lamp :D

From that I would infer that the heated jets are on all the time that the ignition is and are probably internally thermostatically controlled. Certainly does not appear to be any kind of switch or relay in the circuit other than the ignition switch.

That should help with the current in the circuit.

Node joints are quite common on VAG cars, they are often refered to as an 'internal connection' in the wiring loom. Basically they are just a group of wires joined together with a crimp and heat shrunk. The will be joined so as pointe dout above power can be shared to different unit. Earth connections will allways go down to the earth track at the bottom, the number in the circle will indicate where the earth bolts to, i.e o/s/f chassis leg.

Are there any references anywhere that detail where all the different connectors numbers (eg T2e etc) are physically located in the car ?

Yes these are usually all detailed at the bottom of each page on the propper wiring diagrams, along with a key to the wiring codes (which are based on German IIRC).

I'll see if we have the same page for Fabia and get the rest of the diagram when I'm back at work tomorrow a.m.

Techie - did you get a chance to look at the Fabia diagram ?
