Am I right in Thinking that when I switch the button on to heat the rear window the mirrors will heat aswell, because both don't seem to work on my mk1 Leon FR TDI, also the passenger front door switch doesn't seem to work I.e. When I open the door the light doesn't come on, where is the switch located ?

Thanks all

some may say lala land....
you are correct
same switch does both rear & mirrors
sounds like fuse may have gone or the switch.

you can change switch for a different one that will auto turn off after 9miutes, rather than you having to turn it off manually.
pics in a thread of difference with part numbers about - i put them up!

you got a link to that thread please, ive searched and cant find it

Iam guessing the relay is behind the switch so maybe replacing the unit might fix it and upgrade to the 9 min unit at the same time

Fuse 26 for the heated rear window. The mirrors are supplied with power from the door control unit.

No relay.
I'd guess the switch needs checking out with a continuity tester.

fuse 26 is fine and i think iam gonna change the switch for one of them timed ones that turns off after 9 mins, if that doesn't fix it then ill have to look further into it.

OK, started looking at this today and my mirrors are getting 12v and heating up ok on both sides and i can feel them get warm. Dont know why i thought they didnt work ?

but the rear glass still isnt heating up. The fact that the mirrors work does that mean its not a fuse, relay or the heater switch then and its just wiring to the rear heated glass thats the problem or the elements on the glass itself ?

Have you tried a meter on the contacts for the rear window to make sure that you have power there ? At least if you don't you can start working back towards the switch until you find the break.

Ok, started to take off the trim around the rear window inside the tailgate and notice that one of the wiring blocks on the n\s is NOT attached, but not sure if ive pulled this off while removing the trim, so anyway ive pushed it back on and tested it and iam getting 12v to it. Ive checked the other side o/s which is pushed in fine but getting no volts from it, is this an earth side ? is so that explains why iam getting no volts.

also now noticed something different, since ive pushed the connector on the n/s, my heated light switch on the dash now glows red when off and yellow when pushed on.

before it was always yellow when pushed in or not but just 2 different shades of yellow.

should this switch glow red when its off ?

It is backlit red like all the other dash "features" and the electric window switches. I think that you may have fixed it as I never knocked the plug off my Leon and I had that panel off (a bugger to get off isn't it!) a few times.

You really waited a year to try the suggestions

Lee its one of those things that i just never got around to looking at and seeing as i was bored tonight thought id dig up this old thread and investigate.

Yes glowing red makes sense like all the other switches. Since ive had it it, it glows yellow and i didnt think anything of it cause next to it is the passenger airbag light which also glows yellow when you first start the car. And yes its a bugger to get off all the tailgate trim without snapping something, think iam a trim clip down now !

Should i be getting 12v from both connectors each side of the glass or is one side live and the other earth ?

My leon cupra 2002 also has everything in the boot not working, apart from the lights.

Rear wiper doesnt work
Rear Sprayer doesnt work
Heated screen doesnt work
Boot doesnt lock on the central locking

Any ideas? save starting another thread?

Hijack it mate, iam finished with this thread now all mine works.

Start off by checking all the relevant fuses in the fuse box as thats the easy bit.
If the fuses are ok, take all the plastic trim off the tailgate and use a volt meter and see if the wiper motor and heated screen are getting 12v. Do that first and post your results.

Also the rear screen wash, can you hear the pump going but no waters coming out ?
