Just worth adding my $.02 here as I've just had the IDA-X303 installed:

If you're planning on using it with an iPhone or iPod touch running the lastest firmware (3.whatever), then after 15 minutes, there's a .5s pause in playback which then occurs every 2-3 minutes thereafter.

Completely ruins playback IMHO, though allegedly Alpine are probably going to fix it in a future firmware update which will require you to send off your headunit.

I just bought myself a cheap second hand iPod nano, and velcroed it to the underside of the dash. No more annoying pauses.

We have a winner!

Finally after lots of stops and starts the head unit is finally in.

I went to Halfords for some releaser keys but they didn;t have any in stock so the guy said he would pop the unit out for me so could change it when i got home!! what a result.

Just a not to the cred card trick. I think it will only work with straight strips if u have quite a thick card as the releaser keys are an "L" shape. I think the easy way with a card is to cut a strip with a hook on the end so it can catch onto the unit.

Once i did that the real fun started i decided to go for the Alpine IDA-X301 as i was really only paying extra for the output ports i wouldn't use and the colour screen. I got the old unit out and decided to take the advice of swaping the tray and the head unit around. Only prob is that there are lots of wires in the back of the head unit. I also noticed that the wires in the dash were comming from the opposite side to there the went into the head unit so needed to move the around in the dash.

U have to be patient when putting this one in as getting the wires out the way to get the unit in takes a while but once in it locks in nicely. Tray was difficult to get back in as it has 2 bits that slot into like a runner and the facia on the unit made it dificult to get them in place but some gentle persuasion proved the best option.

Will try and get some pics on cos it looks mint
