made it all myself, but a break down of the cost would be to convert the ABF

Carbs: 50
180 Jets: 12
Throttle accessories: 5

Inlet flange: 40
Inlet gasket: 8
Stainless steel for runners: 15
Welding: 45
Silicone hose and clips: 15

KR ignition controller: 25
KR distributor: 25

Thats pretty much it... that should see around 170/180 horse and more if tuned

You can make most of that back by selling the inlet off the ABF... simples

also if not tuned well... youll see in the region of 20mpg ;)

so tecnically a 20 - 30 bhp increase for such a low amount

If you got bike carbs of one of the smaller inline 4's like an r6 or gsxr600 then i reckon it might be fairly good.

I am really really tempted to do it, even if I dont get much of a power increase, I want it more for the sound. [B)]

A member on here, Novataken (Spelling?) did it to his 1.4.

u go first tell me how easy it is and if it blows up haha :)

havent seen any mention of an FPR here, bike carbs run at 3-5psi where as modern fuel injection pumps are many times more, you will need an FPR to knock down the pressure for the carbs to work properly, no great expense though.

to run carbs on a 1.4 you will need a distributor from a mk2 golf 1.3 and, and the ignition wiring from a 1.6 driver, amplifier etc fuel pressure regulator, custom inlet manifold, bike carbs and a fair bit of handy work

Thanks for that list, gives me a starting point to start looking and pricing stuff. I wasnt sure what I would exactly need.

I can do the custom inlet manifold as I work in an engineering place. And I doing mind doing abit of handy work. :funk:

theres plenty of room behind the 1.4/1.6 engine to get the carbs in, an ITG sausage filter is also advisable or similar.

I have plenty of people I can ask at work aswell for advice on making bits etc. Ive just spent 4 years doing my apprenticeship and now I'm qualified so I am rather mechanical minded.

Thats what gave me the idea of it, the amount of room behind the 1.4 engine. I was thinking of one of those ITG filters aswell. What sort of bike carbs would you recommend using??

Rather than running all that heavy mk2 golf stuff you could probably run megajolt instead. Or take it one step further get rid of the carbs and run bike throttle bodies and megasquirt.

EFI pumps run at 3.0 bar normally - approx 43 psi
