Hi all,

My fanbelt is squeaking when it's cold so I want to change it. I know all you need to do is loosen the tensioner and slip it off and the new one on but it is really tricky to get at. Has anybody else done this? What did they need to remove to get at it??

Also, does anybody know how often you should change the Diesel Particle Filter (think that's what it's called), the cylinder type thing with fuel hoses coming out of it at the front of the engine bay? Was at college the other night (mechanics) and a guy was there changing his but forgot to ask him how often it needs changing. Mine looks filthy n don't think it's ever been changed with 100k on the clock.

Cheers,
Ross

Cars dont have fanbelts any more, itll be the auxilary belt which is squeeking. I think its quite a simple job if your mechanicaly minded, but ive never tried.

The thing at the front of your engine bay is the fuel filter. Think its every 20k miles, but will say in the service schedule.

Yeah sorry I still call them fan belts. Hmm gonna order a fuel filter then! Just wanted to know if anyone else had changed one and what they removed.

I havent changed mine yet, but I think it just pulls out of its holder. Disconect the pipes from it first, pull it out and put the new one in. If the clips holding the pipes on are the crimp type, replace them with the ones you can screw up with a screwdriver (sorry bad description, but hopefuly yuoll know what I mean) Atach the pipes back on and then turn ignition on. Wait for 30 seconds, turn off and turn on again. Wait 30 seconds, and then try starting your engine. Tihs may take a few seconds for the air to get out of the system. Leave on tick over for 5 mins or so, and job done!

Sorry just realised my previous post made out like I was asking how to change the fuel filter. I know how to change that coz I helped a guy at college do it but want to know what needs removing to change the aux belt.

Cheers for your reply anyway :)

Diesel fuel filter should be replaced every 40k miles according to service schedule, but a dealer I spoke to said 60k it is only really needed at 60k miles.

Easy job to change the belt you'll need a 16mm spanner and a new belt. Theres a pulley under the alternator that runs on the back of the belt, it has a 16mm bolt in the centre of it, pull the spanner towards you to loosen it and you can then slip the belt off.
