 i seem to have a real hanling problem with my mk1 cupra turbo, i'e it just doesn't want to turn in and it feels (woobly:confused: ) the shocks all feel ok when bouncing on each corner and they seem to settle fine, i just dont have much faith in the car at the moment.
has anyone any ideas what i should be checking/looking at.   HELP!!!!!!

i have checked all tyre pressures today and they are spot on with what it should be, 33psi rear and 36front if i remember right. in the wet, its even worse, would a strut brace help? can i fit an uprated anti roll bar with uprated bushes?

Should be 36 all round and you should get both a rear arb and a front upper strut brace to help turn in. Better shocks and springs will also make a world of difference.

what shocks do you suggest, and would you suggest coil over's and adjustables?

Mine handles brilliantly but then I do have the full works including a diff.

Coilovers are expensive and needless IMO unless you plan to do lots of track work. If you've got the reddies go for it. Damping adjustment is essential and ride height will tend to be adjustable on those items too

does anyone know the standard ride hight for the mk1 cupra t, it's on standard 16"s and if so, where do i measure it from, i dont know if the previous owner has messed with the shocks/springs so i want to measure the ride hight. it still handles like a soggy sponge and its even worse in the wet

Anti rolls bars..and strut braces will help. TBH, handling is the leons downfall.

Im currently running a lower strut brace and iv got Bilstein coilovers..and the handlines is brilliant...has miles of grip. Tyres make a big difference to.

ARB's for me next. :)

checking tracking tomorrow because it squeels at nearly walking face on full lock, i have been told this could be a major influance to my problem, if its towing in on both wheels, then when its turned, one wheel in theory will be turning and one will be trying to go straight(ish)

i would think a loose track rod end would affect one side more than the other?
 would thought there would be an audiable type of knock(if knackered TRE) i think i need a uprated front and rear ARB and maybe poly bushes? any ideas on thickness's for new ones.

I'd have said track rod ends. I'm sure i've read on mkiv's forum they go and if they go on golf they presumably go on leons? Cheap too (comparatively).

Was it always this bad?

dont know as i have only owned her for about 3 months so i cant say how bad she was before. but i love her and want to get her back to being able to handle as these are supposed to handle, (and i do refer to my car as an HER, she excites me more, im pleased to see her in the morning, less ear ache, more fun to be "in"):whistle:

love the car to bits(down sized from my E36 M3, too high on the "steal me list") more grin factor with this car, its just as with most VAG based motors, they can and do handle, im just a bit pissed off with how mine handles, as in it feels scary on cornering and i dont have any faith in it, thanks for the link though, much appriciated mate.
