Halfords SEAT Flash Red Paint

I know lots of people have warned about the dangers of going to Halfords for paint but I thought I would give it a go, can't be that bad I thought.

Colour was rubbish, completely different! I didn't expect it to be a perfect match but it looked orange!

I went in to the store today and told an advisor about the colour match. His first response was.."Well there's nothing we can do about it I suggest you contact SEAT".

Obviously my response was...er, why it's your paint? When I told him it looked orange he said well flash red is an orangey colour anyway. I had to ask him to make up a decent colour match as he just looked at me blankly.

He then went over and started to make up some paint. I said I hope you are not going to charge me for this. His response was "well I'll charge you the difference, it costs £14.99 to make this up". I told him that I wasn't happy paying that when the original wasn't fit for purpose and told him to come and have a look at the paint match. He agreed it was miles off and made up some volkswagen flash red as a replacement. He eventually said that he would not charge for new paint. I'm not convinced it's going to match but I was most appauled at the service!

So yeah, be warned....again! Don't buy halfords flash red paint for your SEAT.

Now don't take this the wrong way as I'm not defending the company at all.

However; I am a manager for Halfords ad agree not all of our paints are spot on. Not meaning to sound flippant at all nut did you use the correct colour primer and how many coats did you give the part you were painting?

The reason I ask is because I used some about 2 weeks ago (in my readers ride) to do my bump strips. The match is 100% perfect I was gob smacked. A couple of different forum members have seen it and have all said it's spot on.

Like I said I am not trying to stir anything simply would like to know so I can try and make a difference by contacting product etc.

Please feel free to have a look at my RR.

(what store did you go to)

I probably should have gone to SEAT first to be honest.

I did follow the instructions, sanded down to a smooth finish, used halfords wipes to prepare the surface, primed with red primer as recommended and used a whole can (300 ml I think) to do one wing mirror cover. I allowed time to dry between coats and got a good finish, just a rubbish colour. I took my time and am pretty sure I did it correctly.

The thing I was most annoyed about was the service to be honest, especialy the initial response of there's nothing we can do about it, contact Seat.

Fair enough.

Like I said Im not trying to upset anyone I just like to hear about things like this helps me train my staff for different situations and peoples expectations.

Sorry it didn't work out for ya, should've come to my store I sort all my fellow SEAT drivers the best I can lol

What store did you go to out of curiosity?

It was the store at Parkway Industrial Estate Plymouth. Last time my brother went down he had problems with unhelpful staff as well.

I'm by no means saying all staff there are the same, think I was just unlucky.

Just wanted to warn people about the paint before they waste their money and time too
