Yesterday I took the Leon to Star Performance in Kirckaldy, Fife who specialize in VW Group engine tuning and got a re-map done!

UNBELIEVABLE!!!

New figures are 194BHP and 302lb/ft of Torque!!

That's an extra 54BHP and 67lb/ft of torque!

The difference in pulling power from 3rd through to 6th is quite simply astonishing - and it was no slouch beforehand!

There's also a noticeable difference in smoothness all through the gear range - just feels unhindered if that's the right word.

Put your foot down in any of the high gears and the the thing just flys - huge stomach wrenching grunt.

Re-map took 30mins and cost a cool £500 notes - probably the best money I have ever spent.

I'm doing an 80mile commute to work every day so will let you know how the economy is affected but Star Performance reckon if it's driven "sensibly" the average economy will increase - I'm getting 44 at the moment and I have a habit of exceeding the speed limits if you know what I mean!

Star Performance have a TFSi Leon as part of their fleet and that is curently pushing out 250BHP!

DO IT - YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO.

I also got a shot of Stars leon also, brilliant, flying machine. they have lined up a big brake conversion for it, to compliment the full milltek system and the remap

any excess smoke, as somtimes desiels emmit more with the hike in perfomance, or was that the old ones??

you will be wanting an upgrade in the exhaust dept to compliment the remap??

sounds nice!! should shift now! from 140bhp must be loving it! 2.0tdi seems to be shaping up nicely, interesting to see in the future realeaasuing a real performance one like the 1.9tdi 160pd
i know they have done a 170pd but i mean a 200bhp one out the box!

a leon sport TFSI stage 2 yesterday got 255bhp a then a 280bhp run on the rollers :)

K4ith, did you pop in yesterday?

Spoke to a bloke at Star with a silver TDi Golf while I was there.

Jim mentioned that they are after a TDi FR cos he reckons that Seat have upgraded the turbo and injectors which should produce 250 BHP after a re-map.

Not noticed any more smoke as yet.

Noticed the Milltek exhaust on Star's Leon - might have to invest in a few months - going to enjoy the re-map first though!

i would love to see that! haha but highly doubt it!

but if true the clutch would have to be upgraded straight away. cos it would have like 250lb of torque...

It's amazing how flexible these new diesels are - a simple 30min re-map and my Leon is now pushing out BHP/torque figures easily a match of the current hot hatch crop - miles more torque than most of them in fact!

I queried Star about the affect the extra power/torque would have on the clutch and other mechanical bits and they were pretty relaxed about it - they mentioned that the standard engine is already as strong as an ox and the rest of the bits have plenty of allowance built in from scratch so this re-map should really have no major implications - obviously a lot to do with how you drive, but I'm confident the standard bits will be able to cope with increased shove.

Depending on how it develops I think an upgrade in the brakes is about all I would need to do.

Already have the 225 Pirelli's on the 18" alloys which provide stacks of grip and together with the standard lowered 'sports' suspension set-up on the Reference Sport I think I'll be just fine.

Still grinning like a Cheshire cat!

well you are running same power as golf gti and lots more torque so you will be quicker!

Only done 4K so far in the new car so barely run in - can only get better matey!

Will be taking it easy for a few 1000 miles though and 80 steady miles of a very smooth brand new motorway everyday will just be the job me thinks!

After the first 10K service I'm going to get the car on Star's rolling road to check stats!

No that wasn't me, Its a golf gti i have, Star remapped it from 180 to 199, then fitted full milltek system inc sport downpipe, then new map, front and rear arb's, was good for 230+bhp,(some bm's got a fright) but its all taken off now and back to stnd, I am looking to be the 1st FR tdi they do on the new Leon,If and when i sell my golf, iam not sure when to get the remap on, as the golf was 10k when i got it mapped, now the only thing when i got all that work done was if i floored the car from stand still i got real bad engine hop, but a powerflex dogbone sorted it but the cabin rattled a bit which was a pain, i noticed Jim's leon didnt have this which is an added bonus, forgot to mention his leon also has an arb fitted too.

This 194 BHP sounds great. You got me well tempted , But worried about my seat warranty and insurance thats whats holding me back. Has anyone had any horror stories after a remap any problems etc.

I've had no rattles or squeaks on either of the Mk2's I've owned - as I've mentioned before elsewhere on this forum, the new Leon is very well built and screwed together inside and out - something the mortoring journo's have also picked up.

Cannae wait to hear about the new FR matey - keep us updated!

Woudl have thought intake temperatures would need looking at if pushing that much. Plus from what i have read the Piezo injectors do not like being pushed too much. so i would doubt 250bhp is gonna be there. In fact i am pretty sure the turbo on the 140 and 170 is nigh on identical. Think sparky knows the answer after looking in to it all

Yeh, I thought about that too - I'm defo advising the insurance company tommorrow - why not - if I have to pay an extra £50-£100 it's worth it's and I can then sleep at night knowing I'm covered - I'll let you know how I get on.

As far as the warranty is concerned - maybe taking a wee risk but as I've said above, plenty of allowance/flexibility in the standard set-up to allow for the re-map. Just got to be sensible and use the extra power carefully - treat the engine with respect and everything will be fine. I'm sure.

From what I gathered, the dealer will be none the wiser from a standard service - but folks please correct me if I'm wrong!

Honestly, it's worth it.

My car has been if VW a few times and they never noticed but then they aren't loking i suppose, i never told the Ins Co,
Greenlight are a good bunch tell them what ya got and they give you a price.
Is it the direct port you got Starbank, looked at the price and looks like it.
Strange how Skoda offer remaps at the dealer and are covered under warranty.

Yeh I think so, they just plugged it in and remastered the tuning.

Hearing the car on the rolling road being revved to it's max was unnerving though! - Had to leave the garage, with a coffee and let them get on with it!!!
