We should probably be posting in the general mk1 area, but regardless, where the braided cable goes into the metal egt probe it is easily pulled out (ask me how I know!). I bought a used one complete but afterwards noticed that I could have bought a new probe / cable from that same site. Would need soldering to the black box but the join would be on the cool side of the engine. Don't know the probe specs so may not work, but it's a 'plan B' if you're struggling to find a decent s/h one (although the same part is used on the Audi tt, mk4 golf gti, etc).
