I'm been having a slight dilema for the last few days whether to proceed with my original choice of GTRS eliminator or whether to "downgrade" to the GT2X package….
My main concern with going GTRS is the lag issue associated with that turbo… although it would be nice to have a motor that can hit 300+…. I'd rather be short of that figure and have a car that is more pleasant to drive….So I'm looking to get some advice from SCN members as to the advantages or otherwise of going either route…(not taking into account IHI, JBS etc.options...)
I've listed pros and cons below from what I'm aware of - let me know if I'm missguided in any of them and please add any other ads/disads of either route.
GT2X Pros
- Less lag (don't know exactly when it begins to spool but I'm guessing below 3k rpm and above 2K....)
- Easier to fit (with or without ATP hi-flow manifold)
- Can still make 280+bhp on stock manifold (assumption based on a chipped KO4 making similar figures on stock manifold)
- £200ish cheaper
- More reliability/less strain on stock or ATP manifold (+ valvetrain and other components which I don't plan to upgrade in the near-term)
GT2X Cons
- Will struggle to ever reach 300 - little potential above 280-290bhp
- £200 for the GTRS will give 30-40bhp more… which is a big difference if you consinder the full package being around £3K+ (for either turbo) with peripherals and mapping…
- Therefore only 75-80bhp gain vs 100-110bhp gain - for roughly the same price.
Cheers for tha advice chaps… I'm all a bit discombobulated….. ;o)
