GTRS vs GT2X

I'm been having a slight dilema for the last few days whether to proceed with my original choice of GTRS eliminator or whether to "downgrade" to the GT2X package….

My main concern with going GTRS is the lag issue associated with that turbo… although it would be nice to have a motor that can hit 300+…. I'd rather be short of that figure and have a car that is more pleasant to drive….So I'm looking to get some advice from SCN members as to the advantages or otherwise of going either route…(not taking into account IHI, JBS etc.options...)

I've listed pros and cons below from what I'm aware of - let me know if I'm missguided in any of them and please add any other ads/disads of either route.

GT2X Pros
- Less lag (don't know exactly when it begins to spool but I'm guessing below 3k rpm and above 2K....)
- Easier to fit (with or without ATP hi-flow manifold)
- Can still make 280+bhp on stock manifold (assumption based on a chipped KO4 making similar figures on stock manifold)
- £200ish cheaper
- More reliability/less strain on stock or ATP manifold (+ valvetrain and other components which I don't plan to upgrade in the near-term)

GT2X Cons
- Will struggle to ever reach 300 - little potential above 280-290bhp
- £200 for the GTRS will give 30-40bhp more… which is a big difference if you consinder the full package being around £3K+ (for either turbo) with peripherals and mapping…
- Therefore only 75-80bhp gain vs 100-110bhp gain - for roughly the same price.

Cheers for tha advice chaps… I'm all a bit discombobulated….. ;o)

Yer Mother - I know plenty about the fitment issues relating to the GTRS (done plenty of searching… ;o) ) - that's why in the Pro's for GT2X I've put "Easier to fit."

Dave - Not planning on Revo - MRC custom map or possibly James at CC if they can do it… But thanks for the heads up. =)
RE Oil feed - I remember reading somewhere about this… but haven't looked into it as I've been researching the GTRS…. Surely it has an oil feed… just not water cooled….. Limitations/implications?

Cheers

No worries dude - anyone else want to add their 2ps worth to this decison....? I'm all eyes....

Out of interest, what's the most anyone has seen out of a GT2X... (possibly on VWVortex?)

GT2X will probably be around £800 delivered from ATP turbo in the USA. I don't have anything aginst JBS..... just a slightly cheaper route to get and fit all the bits yourself and then get it mapped. :)

GT2X has oil feed but no Water cooling to bearings, seeing a lot of these coming up for sale on Vortex, seems they are not all they are cracked up to be, appears that there are reliability problems and the Turbo suffers from quite bad lag for the power range compared to equivalent K04 or K04 Hybrids.
Like all of the K04 sub 300BHP conversions I am finding that for the money a K04 equipped LCR is damned good value for money once mapped to 270-280BHP and circa 300Lbs ft, getting another 20-30bhp and maybe another 10 Lbs ft ( which to put into perspective is the tightening torque of M5 / M6 screws, not a lot) is costing in excess of 1K fitted +mapping......think I will go with a K04 mapped upgrade on my Octy VRS.........:D
