GTD1449vz turbo upgrade CR150 2.0L TDI

Hi everyone! I’ve seen a few previous forums asking about upgrading the turbo on CR150 models to the CR184 turbo (GTD 1449vz) but haven’t found any of the answers I’d have hoped for.
Wondering if anyone has fitted this turbo to their vehicles or know what the score is with it? Is it just plug and play, I’ve seen on one forum that the actuator may need to swapped and another that the EGR is different in some way which I don’t see to be likely as they’re all the same EA288 platform engines?

Any and all advise, knowledge or help would be appreciated. If all fails I’ll let people know how it goes as I’ve got CR184 turbo in the way and plan on fitting it either way.

Thanks in advance!

Don't know details regarding turbo - but I know the 184 has an upgraded clutch & bigger brakes over the 150.

Yeah that is correct. Not to worried about that as I know I’m gonna need a clutch soon anyway so will just upgrade as and when needed. Brakes aren’t an issue

Have a scourer of a parts catalogue - and note any different OEM part numbers.

Oh damn that’s quite useful. Thanks I will have a proper look through to check everything after work and note in the forum after

For info. The EGR system and turbo with exhaust manifold seems to be the same over many of the EA288 engines. At least in their assembly. So mostly likely they would all have the same oil feeds etc. link to parts diagrams: https://www.catcar.info/audivw/?lan...pbGR0YWZlbD09MTQ1NTV8fEdyYWZpaz09MDE0NTYwNzQ2

Will update more when I eventually get this installed on my own vehicle. Not going to be for a while as I’ve been unable to find someone who would tune it and heard running larger turbo without tune isn’t the best of ideas.

You might find more differences between emissions classes?
For example:
CUPA = Euro 5
CUNA = Euro 6

I'm sure anyone who would do a custom tune car sort it -

Yeah they seem to be grouped by the emissions classes. Not an issue when it comes to the actual turbo just the egr cooler, DPF etc.

I had a company lined up with a decent reputation but they’ve told me they won’t tune anything with aftermarket turbo. I don’t know if you could class this as aftermarket being off the same engine but is what it is. Just need to put in some research to find someone willing to properly tune it.
