just got the gmax suspension installed.. dropped by 30mm all around.

but i just have some problems which hopefully u can answer!

when take corners at speed, it sounds as if the wheels are rubbin the arches, at the back of the car. but when ig et out, i cant see and wear on the tyres, or have rubber on the arches. i also guessimate that the wheels are too far in the arches to touch them, as i have no spacers on the rear.

another problem is that when i go over the smallest speed bump or pot hole, the rear makes alot of sound, as if the suspension isn't oiled enough. i cant describe the sound, apart from being loud!

but apart fromt this, the suspension is actually really good, the car feels to be going alot faster, where i was doing 90, i'm now doing 95, and i can do roundabouts at 50 instead of 40.. so i'm not gonna complain.

just wondering if i should oil/grease the suspension, or will it wreck it, and should i be experiencing problems with the wheels touching the arches

Hi

I like the list of Mods you have on the car so far, if you dont mind me asking but where did you get your suspension kit from? how much did you pay as i have been after a suspension kit for a while but could not one to fit a MK3 Ibiza 'Chill' 1.4 model.

any advice would be wicked.

cheers

to get this suspension.. click here

its £239.99. lowers by 30mm all around. they will ask for your chassis number, to make sure it fits.

but still, i need to get these problems sorted with it.

The suspension will need time to 'settle' so will drop a little bit more, check the front wheels are not rubbing the arch lining when cornering, also probably worth taking the back wheels off and checking the inside of the wheels are not running on the suspension cup.

well i've now realised tat the front wheels are rubbing on the arches :(. anything i can do about this??

iwas hoping that the other sounds are because the suspension isn't warn in properly yet, but it doesn't seem to be getting any quieter,. if it hasn't gone today, then i'll go to the garage and get it checked.

if hitting the arches then ask for your money back as they didn't fit it right

if hitting the arch liner, jack the car up, remove the wheel & cut out anything that's been rubbed.

lmao but true ;)

Suspension's next on my list but u've only got to read the reviews to realise that an H&R Cup Kit is the only way to go (unless u want coilovers, in which case KW sound the nuts ;D)

how do i find the correct offset?

i know the suspension was cheap, but i wasn't expecting these types of problems from them, because of them being cheap, i was expecting them to only suffer from poorer ride and handling that cant compete with koni and other manufacturers. i will probably upgrade the suspension, but i'd rather stick with these and just get the problems sorted

if you really are catching the archs then it's a) too soft b) setup wrong

BUT

you've not answered the question I asked about what it's hitting

cheapness is irrelevant - it's to do with quality.

well i dont know what its hitting. i've checked the tyres, and cant see signs of wear. and checked the inside of the arches, and cant see anything unusual :(. i'll go to a different garage this time and see what they think is happening.

Perhaps it's hitting the spring or the spring holder on the shock absorber.
I drove a Golf VR6 with a Jamex (which was what gmax were called back then and still are on the continent) and it drove badly over imperfect roads, a lot of oscillation of the springs and crashed badly over pot holes. New rear bump stops may help your problem or if you can see that the arches are not going to rub try 5mm spacers on the back to clear the suspension components and your wheels if that's the problem. What offset do your wheels have?

Just had a customer ring up who has bought an Ibiza Cupra R with a gmax set of springs installed.

He says it's slammed at the front, one finger tyre/arch and he reckons he can get his fist between the back tyre and arch!!??

He took it to a track day this weekend and it handled like s**t!!

Anyone had/seen this before??

i had g-max on my mk2 ibiza. it was the biggest pile of cack i have ever seen. when it was on the car the suspension was RAISED about 60mm at front and slammed about 80mm at the rear. a truly appaling piece of kit. it looked like a space ship ready to launch.
