tdi don't need cat's to pass mot's (so i was led to belive) but to be honest jabba told me not to get downpipe and de-cat on pd130 turbo as it puts to much presure on the turbo and will shorten the life by alot!!

tdi goes with smoke test and if no cat which means heavier smoke particles which meaning failed mot i would imagine, any1 had mot pass without cat??

With the resonated I notice it was a little bit louder in the car but nothin exciting unless your going through a tunnel. However you can hear the downpipe gargling when the turbo is under full load which sounds really nice. Passengers in the back say they can hear the exhaust but up front its a bit quieter.

ok because i like the ambience (good word huh!) in my car as it is

i dont want a drowning loud exhaust at motorway speeds i just want the performance gain (when coupled to a remap) and a slightly crisper exhaust note

I had the back seats down and the parcel shelf out one day and noticed the exhaust alot more. Has anyone else had this?

In reply to the MOT question - I've got a complete de-cat, a 3" exhaust with just one rear box, and a very very smokey map - and it passed first time!

From what I understand, as a general rule with diesel tuning, the less restriction in the cat / exhaust, the freerer & quicker the turbo will spoil up. I guess on a turbo which happily reaches it's 180BHP limit without it, unless you're planning on upgrading to a hybrid turbo, there may well be little point.
