:( If it's anything like my old Cavalier. 1of the driveshafts hadn't been hammered back in enough after one of the cv gaiters had been replaced. It eventully popped out one day when i was doing a Starsky and Hutch style getaway. It wouldn't move at all, even though it was just the one.Exact same symptoms,no drive but everything else working fine.
Got it done by someone who knew what they were doing after that.:censored:

If the speedo still goes up when in gear probably a drive shaft, if it doesn't and it went bang then most likely the diff has gone. We do loads of them

Then wouldn't you drive round in circles?

No.

The diff will send power to whichever shaft is easier to drive - this is why your car can get stuck in mud easily - the spinning wheel uses all the power and none gets to the other wheel that has traction. (This is a simplification - but close enough)

If one drive shaft is broken then all the power will end up being sent to the broken end of the shaft (that should be connected to the wheel). No power will get to the other shaft.

:) Some light reading for you -

(In particular the bit about loss of traction)
