Gearbox woes....

Hi.

My apologies for a first post being a begging letter!

My daughter has a late '96 Cordoba 1.4. She took it for an MOT on Friday - which it passed.

Got nearly home and the gearbox stared making a loud noise (sounded dry). It's mainly on the overrun. Rang a mate of mine who put some oil in it, but it only quietened it down a little.

So I need a gearbox! I know the 1.4 Ibiza & Polos should be the same - any others? And could someone tell me the gearbox code, to make sure I get the right one?

This is all more difficult as I live 150 miles away from her!

Many thanks,

Dave

Thanks - I think! You've confused me now. I'd thought from other threads that it was an 085. Or will either fit?

a lad i knew years ago had a 1.4 cordoba, he bought the 02A gearbox, and kept the 085 cable linkage, it worked fine and was a little quicker through the gears too, but if you want a straight swap, part for part, try to get the 085 box.

try a web search for an 02A gearbox, come off of golf 1.4-1.6, polo 1.6, ibiza 1.4-1.6 and cordoba 4door 1.4-1.6.

i had trouble finding one but got a good deal in the end, and got free delivery.

Have to say that confused me a little!

Having decided I really need to sort this out.......

Does it matter if the box is for 8V or 16V? For instance, there's one on Ebay for a 16V, but the guy is quoting ECU numbers. There's an ECU in/on the box?? Really ought to pay more attention to cars built after 1973........
