Gearbox.. MOT monday

Ever since iv had the car if i put it into second to quick it would just crunch and not catch in gear.

Then the past 2 days it started just making a rattling noise going into second as if it was hitting off something that was loose (didnt sound to healthy) I had to push it right in and I could feel there wasn't much there.

About 2 hours ago it just gave way and wasnt going in any gears, left it for a while and it would take away in 1st not bad but with this rattle still there and then struggling into 2nd sounding terrible same with 3rd didnt go any higher was only round the corner.

Got my mates dad out to have a look and he said he doesnt think its the gearbox thats away because it driving ok in gear if your gentle, definetly not drivable for any amount of time but going into gear at least.

Just had the AA out, I took him round the block and he said 4 things, clutch , engine mounting, wheel bearing or drive shaft by the noise it was making. There coming back tomorrow morning to tow it to the garage.

my wheel bearing collapsed on monday morning mate. If its on its last legs it'l go from a distinct low "rumble" to a high pitched "squeal." this is the last thing i heard b4 my rear whell locked up!

mmm, sounds like a chipped dog tooth to me, but i know little. def the problem you describe about it crunching in to secound is a worn synchro. likelyhood is you've chipped a dogtooth and is now rattling round your 'box. may well have damaged the lay shaft or be stopping a selector fork from moving.
