G12 - same as Halfrauds?

Hi,

Does anyone know if Halfords Advanced Antifreeze (the pink stuff) is the same, or meets the same OAT standards as G12 (also pink).

I want to know if its safe to use in my car (Ibiza 1.4). The manual says I should use VAG stuff, but I have some Halfords vouchers and if its the same stuff, then might as well get that.

Cheers

I don't think it is, even Mobil pink antifreeze doesn't meet G12 standards.

G12 Plus is cheap as chips anyway, a fiver for a bottle from any VAG dealer or GSF.

The problem with putting any other pink antifreeze in with G12 is that it turns brown and discolours the header tank. Its mainly so dealers know that other work has been done on the cars.

Stick with G12.

I might be wrong here, but im 99% sure there's a small label on the back of the bottle saying that the Halfauds stuff is the equivalent of the stuff stated to use in the hand book.

There's a reference in bold writing if you look in the hand book...use that as your guide.

The halfords stuff DOES comply to vag standards, it just doesn't say G12 on it (as thats a VAG code).

The vag standard is TL774D which the halfords stuff complies to.

I took a look on the back, and it did say something about being 'manufacturer approved factory fill' and that it met the standards for seat, vw , audi etc (the T code someone wrote on here) so I would assume its ok. Also theres a Q&A section for it on the Halfords website and someone asks if it would be ok to put in their 2001 polo and they said yes.

I could get it from VW just to make sure, but £15 for 5l at halfords isnt bad +i have vouchers.

It wouldnt be for a top-up as would flush the whole system through before putting it in.

Just didnt want to put the wrong stuff in as someone said the wrong stuff can eat head bolts etc.
