went to VW this afternoon to get some coolant, as mine's below the minimum (would explain why i get the three beeps every morning - thought the prongs just needed cleaning  )

anyway, the only stuff they had was g12 plus, in a bottle with a pink cap. they claimed that it had superceded the existing g12 coolant, and that it would be fine to mix with my existing red stuff. they also claimed that the blue stuff was withdrawn about 5 years ago.

anyone know if that's true? i know you defo can't mix the red and blue stuff.

anyone know if i'm gonna knacker anything by topping up with it? i also got some ionised water (battery top-up) to mix with it. i only need to top it up a couple of inches, if that.

to be fair, my current stuff looks more pink than red, so perhaps the existing stuff is actually the pink stuff? :help:

whilst i'm sure VW know what they're talking about, they're not going to give me a new car if i break it

bad form to reply to my own post but from scouring the net it would appear that the g12 plus stuff is ok to mix with blue g11 and red g12, so looks like i'll be fine :)

unless anyone thinks i shouldn't, i'll be doing it tomorrow morning :headhurt:

To quote the user manual...

"Only our G12+ (purple colour) should be used as an antifreeze additive. Observe the notice on the container. The cooling liquid may be purchased in Technical Services.

The antifreeze additive G12+ can be mixed with other additives (G11 & G12).

The additive G12 (red colour) should never be mixed with G11."

Hope this helps :)
