When my car is idling I get this funny low sounding popping noise... finally located it as the funny bottle thing on the bottom left hand side of the engine bay by the front bumper.
It seems to be fed by two pipes and if you put your finger over the little hole at the bottom it sucks your finger and the noise stops.

Question:
Is there any way of getting rid of this or changing it somehow as it just sounds so loud sometimes and makes the engine sound really noisy at standstill??

Charcoal cannister? its part of the Emissions system

cannister is a better word for it...

can you do anything to it then? if i was to remove it and just have the pipes loose would still work but be quieter wouldnt it? is yours not loud?

bung the pipes together? I don't recall doing that on my GT Polo?

If its the same setup (I'll be ditching it if it is) Then theres a couple of vacuum pipes that need to be bunged (one at top and one at bottom), otherwise you end up with a lumpy idle and a fuel breather that just needs to be left to breathe lol
