funny noise from passenger door?

so after getting the noise from the cracked drop link sorted i have another new / annoying noise to keep me entertained on journeys.

its hard to explain, but its like a knocking noise coming from or around the passenger door. it comes and goes but the last week its been getting worse. it doesnt seem to relate to anything in particular, sometimes when i go over bumps or sometimes when i lift off the clutch but not every time. its really starting to annoy me especially as i cant put my finger on what it could be.

im guessin maybe something could be rolling about inside the door but i would have thought the noise would always be there if it was that. also if i swing the door open and shut theres no noise!?

the cars booked into seat on monday so i will ask them to have a look but it wld be good to have a better idea what the problem is, especially incase they road test it and the noise doesnt occur, they will think im an idiot.

any input appreciated.

P.S. tried a search - had no luck

if i know its nothing serious then i agree with you, i wont care.

as for the stuff you suggested trying i wouldnt know where to begin tbh!

i'll try the window thing 2moro, but iv already tried that to see what would happen - nothing did.....should i be looking / listeninng for anythin in particular when i try this or is it just to see if it still functions?

I vaguely recall mine used to make a noise from over the passenger door area, I think it was actually the passenger seatbelt moving/knocking against something.

Easy way to check is to do up the passenger seatbelt and see if it stops next time you're driving.

haha, this was this first thing i checked! even when the belt is plugged in the noise continues so its defo no this but if you can imagine that noise, like metal clonking of plastic thats exactly what it sounds like.

im not noticing any difference with window up or down, well when its down its quiter but thats coz the road noise is drowning it out.

its really starting to bug me, i think its getting worse! but if its nothing serious i dont want to go making a big deal out of it at the delears on monday. am i being a fussy b*****d and should i just learn to live with it, or do u think its worth asking them to check out?

Next thing I'd try (which you might have already!) is to change the passenger seat into a completely different position - tilt the backrest right forward, move the seat forward etc. As it could be play in one of the seat adjustment positions, or the tilt'n'slide mechanism.
One of my cars (can't remember if it was the Ibiza or not) used to make a noise when the backrest was in a certain position.

nope i havent tried this, i dont think its where the noise is coming from but its really difficult to locate exactly where the noise is coming from so i'll go give it a try.

something just occured to me, now i imagine its coincidence and wont have anything to do with the noise but im no expert so i'll put it out there for you guys to give your expert opinion - the noise started shortly after i fitted my strut brace

Sounds like the same problem I have just had fixed.

Had a strange knocking noise from new (car now 9 months and 4k old 20VT FR), dealer couldn't find it on 2 or 3 occasions they had it in.

Anyway the noise got really bad (sounds like a cracking/sharp creaking noise), dealer found the problem last week which was a loose regulator, apparently it is part of the mechinism for the electric windows.

Ask them to take a look, might be the problem!

damn i just had the car in the delears today for a service and decided not to say anything because since saturday afternoon the noise had disappeared again?!?!

did the noise on yours come and go randomly?

thanks for your help, this sounds like it could be the winner!

Yeah it was random, strangely found it was most apparant first thing in the morning, especially on a cold day, but in the last 3-4 weeks became more and more regular, perhaps as it was getting more loose.

i havent been able to notice any kind of pattern at all, but the noise is still fairly new and has only recently got worse.

was there anything other than the noise that might help to confirm the problem?

i'll keep an ear on it and if it gets worse i'll get it down to the dealers and report back. thanks again for everyones help so far

if its just started from when you addedthe strut brace then it could be the hugely common rattling airbox put some washers under the strut mounts to raise it a little more to clear the box or to test first ram a cloth in there if problem persists take it to the dealers for them to investigate

i think the struts just coincidence, but just incase i thot i should mention it.

well id say the general area the noise comes from is from seat belt area to erm door handle (infact maybe not even that far up)? i cant locate it better than that since im always driving and none of my passengers have been much help. i dont think its anything underneath the car if that what u meant by low down.
sorry i cant be anymore specific than this, its doin ma nut in ARRGGGHHH!!!!

have you got access to a ramp? as it could be brake lines take the trims off round the seat belt area and you may find an answer not much more we can say being on the computer and not there :(
