But the bloody thing wont start!

I left the car at the GF's while we went down to cornwall for a long weekend last week, when i got back she wouldnt start so tried all the usual WD40 in the dizzy etc as it'd been raining a fair bit and got a bit better but still wouldnt turn over.

I called the AA and they came out and got her running again by doing exactly the same as me but changed a couple of the plugs for spare and he told me i'd flooded the engine with petrol trying to start it (which i thought was smidge suspect seeing as i'd been trying to avoid this and not been overly persistant with the starting attempts)

To be fair to him he get the car running with the original plugs and told me i should be safe to drive it back to cardiff from bristol.

The thing was running really (REALLY) lumpy, not picking up from low revs but not stalling just hanging about about about 700 rpm, if i could coax her upt o revving then she'd drive fine (till the next set of traffic lights/roundabout when i took my foot off the gas i'd go back to the same thing. Impossible and down right dangerous to drive so i took it back to the gf's and borrowed her car and left mine in the garage to dry out.

5 days of a nice dry and fairly warm garage and i'm back to square 1 with the plugs sparking, fuel going to the engine, a battery full of juice and the thing not starting. Had new plugs/leads/dizzy/rota arm less than 1k miles ago.

Any ideas what to try next?

I'll have a check of that when i'm by the car next, by the time Mr AA had done his work i was royally pissed off with the whole thing (and the rain that was pouring down) so just chucked it in the garage and went for a glass of wine ;)

I'm assuming that if a lead had been knocked off its likley to be contributing to the starting issues?

Yes im naked in my avatar
Have you managed to resolve the problem yet? Mine has done exactly the same thing, only it initially wouldn't start due to a flat battery.

Managed to jump start it, took for a quick spin, and noticed the lumpy feeling drive as well.

WD40'd everything i could think of, checked the plugs, etc etc and still nothing! i'm sick of the london underground. there's only so much BO you can take from other people! I'm amazed at how many DONT wash in the morning!

Well the car's in bristol at the GF's at the moment and i'm running about in her 2.0 16v Hyundai coupe :p

I gave it a go yesterday and its still being a PITA. Tax and MOT are up at the end of the month so i'm just going to end up taking it to a garage i would think.

Any recomendations in the bristol area for a nice cheap back street garage? (even if i have to get the B**tard towed there!)

Bedminster, yep, that's a bit of a trek from clevewood. Of course it helps when you know the name of where you're heading :D

Might still be worth a call - even if they can't come to you, they should be able to recommend someone else a bit closer.
