Fuel smell inside cabin

Hey guys, I hope you can help with my problem. I have a 2001 Seat Leon 1.8 T 20V, I recently had a metal breather pipe installed but since then I can smell exhaust fumes whenever the climate control system is on, I've also noticed over the last few months that it is burning a hell of a lot of oil, any suggestions as to how I can first of all get rid of the smell of fumes, and also why the car would suddently start burning all this oil, its done 139000 miles but seems to run ok otherwise.

Thanks in advance.

on my old Leon there was a pipe at the front of the engine that came from the bottom part to the top, or vice versa, anyway, cant remember what it is called, could well be the breather pipe mentioned already.

But mine was rotton, the bottom end of the pipe had a metal ring inside it that then went into the engine, this had seperated from the pipe, hence oil or whatever was escaping, and the fuel smell got sucked into the cabin when stationary because there was no air flow.

I've really kinda failed trying to explain what im talking about, but after many unsucessful days at the stealers trying to suss it out, i figured it out after getting my hands dirty, cost me about £50 to fix....bargin

Hi Cupra ahhh..........thanks for your response, I think this is exactly what my problem is, the garage recently replaced the breather pipe and since then I've been having this problenm, I've taken it back to them twice to rectify this smell of fuel but they just can't seem to get it sorted, unfortunately I'm not much of a mechanic so I wouldn't trust myself to investigate myself but I'll mention whichever garage I decide to take it to next. Thanks for your responst you've been a great help.
