Fuel Leak - Help needed

Got a serious problem with the Leon and hoping you guys can help!

It's started to leak fuel out the filler cap, and not when the tank has been brimmed either - it's done it twice now and both times had about 1/4 tank left.

What I need is a photo or two of the filler neck with the cap off if possible.

Also, where does the fuel pump return go on your cars? Mine is returning before the little flap in the neck so between the actual cap and the flap which I think may be the problem.

Obviously need to get this sorted out quickly as it is a fire risk when it happens as the fuel is streaming out the back of the car.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Have you tried a new fuel cap?? you can pick MOT efficient ones up from most places. It could be just yours for some reason is not tightening up properly when putting cap back on. I picked one up a few months ago for a fiver - worth a go as this would be the cheapest first port of call.

I have to admit I have not heard of this happening before though, especially if the car is only 1/4 tank full. Hopefully someone will reply who has had a similar problem.

There are three pipes running down the car, fuel feed, fuel return and breather. The breather exits near the neck of the filler. It sounds like you've either got fuel getting into the breather, or the breather and return lines have been wrongly connected.

If in doubt, see a garage ASAP!
