Fuel Economy?!?!

Right, afer handing over a nice crisp £10 to the woman at the petrol station yesterday, i managed the grand total of 39 Miles in my 1.4 untill the petrol light was lighting up my dash again, which is obviously not good!
After readind wilz thread the other day, i understand that the Lambda sensor may be to blame? is there anyway i could check this before spending £50 on a new sensor? Also, what else could be the problem?
This really needs sorting now, as its costing me a fortune!!
Also, would the car running this rich cause any other more serious problems at all?

Get it put on a computer to check for fault codes. Ring a few local garages and ask how much it would be and you may get it cheapish. The bigger garages (Seat also) will want you to book it in.

Go to a garage mate local one for cost and get them to put it on the fuel immission tester they should be able to tell with what readings its got. if its through the roof like mines was its either the lamba sensor or your ecu a think thats the other thing as it was to high to be the cat

If it is running to rich, is this likely to cause any major long term problems? A mate of mine had a pug 106 which the head gasket went on, and the garage that fixed it told him it was because it was over fuelling! Could really do without the head going on mine...anyone know if that could happen on a mk2??

Ill hopefully get my car checked this week to see if the lambda sensor has gone/not working properly. Like i mentioned in the other thread im getting crap fuel econompy at the moment as well.
Will keep you guys informed.

This is what i had on mine... so i changed the fuel pump relay.... (was only 11 notes...=cheaper..)

but it's my lambda thats gone.
(disconnected it, and the car idled fine = better than when it was connected)
