Fuel Consumption help

Right...

I did a motorway journey the other day in my 2.0 16v Cupra and only returned 28mpg but didn't really think anything of it. Been in my mate's 2.0 16v Ibiza today and on the same motorway journey he was doing 40mpg!

Now, his car is currently standard... And I have a cat back exhaust and an enclosed BMC air filter with no cold air feed. The MAF sensor plug isn't plugged in as this is on the air box, and I haven't had the car's fuelling tuned from when I made the modifications.

I'm assuming this is my problem..? The car has been quite recently serviced...

If the MAF plug really does need plugging back in, how do I do so without removing the induction kit and fitting the standard air box and filter?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Probably your driving. Mine varys from 25 - 40

I thought this also. But I wasn't really nailing it, but more to the point, neither was he.

I am guessing that the MAF thing must be having a derogatory effect on the fuel consumption though?

Going to have a day tomorrow working on the car... Going to try and find a way of plugging the MAF sensor back into the MAF plug... without loosing my induction kit.

Both induction kits ive had have had holes for the MAF/breather.

if by the MAF plug you mean... like a sensor type effort on the end of a wire... im guessing this is what it is as this is all i have on my ABF.. then i just fitted it ( i got the same BMC ) between the BMC and the flexible inlet pipe... trapping the wire as it were between the two, so it is actually in there, just held by the big hose clip trapping the wire

The first sensor in the pipe from the airbox is air temp sensor. Should be running leaner with it unplugged.

A car running lean is always good for performance I guess haha...

uhm, running lean should give better economy and worse power output.
