Hey Guys and Gals, sorry to bother you all with my boring question but i've recently come across a horrible noise.

Ever since the really cold weather has hit the front suspension (or so i think) has started making a really squeaky and horrible noise. Its not consistent though. Sometimes it will do it when i turn, other times not, sometimes going over a bump and sometimes not. The noise goes away when you give it some (or could just be covered up by road noise). I can't seem to figure out what it is.. At first i thought it was a cabin noise but im fairly sure it is not now. I've had it both the anti roll bar bushes and rear wishbone bushes checked and apparently they are fine. Any ideas what may be causing this then?

Thanks and a happy new year to all!!

Give the top of the front suspension struts a dose of WD-40, had this problem on mine and that cured it, reckon its to do with the rubber becoming harder and brittle in the winter.

Im going to give the top strut mounts a bit of lube to see if that does help the problem, thats the only clue i've got as alot of other things have been checked. I spoke to Seat about this and was told that a few MK4s have problems with weak strut mounts but its not an overly common problem. But this is worth a try!

Right i've taken off the small caps that are the top of the strut mounts, there isn't alot of room. Shall i just spray into there as i have already done and although i have not taken it out for a test drive is that the only place i need to spray into as i cant really get under the car to spray up it as its to low!

Thanks
Sam

Quite a big discussion on the topic here, been having (and still am) problems with knocking noises from the front of my car for the last 18 months and not got it sorted, had loads of good advice on here but my local dealer isn't having any joy in fixing the problem and I've had so much stuff changed to fix it it's unreal lol.

I've had a read through your topic, seems to me that we have different noises. Had all bushes checked but i haven't checked the top strut mounts at all. Fingers crossed i can get in there and give em a good spray and see if that solves the problem. I can't be doing with this noise for much longer though!
