Front Parking Sensors and Optical Display

Odd that they changed this before the end of the model year. Prepping the options lists ready for facelift or the rear camera option has a low uptake and this is a way to increase that.

This is my first post on here, so 'hello' from me. Firstly, I would like to say a big thank you to Peter55 for highlighting his predicament - he has done me a massive favour, as I placed an order for a Leon FR only yesterday afternoon & was under the impression that my car would have both front & rear parking sensors, plus the optical display as standard. I had originally intended to include the rear view camera on my order, but after test driving an FR with the optical display, decided I did not really need the rear view camera & that the optical display would suffice.

Purely by chance, I was looking through this site last night & stumbled across this thread. After reading Pete55's post, I was concerned that I would no longer be receiving front sensors/optical display, so dug out the hard copy brochure I picked up at the dealer this week (dated January) & then downloaded the 'latest' brochure from the Seat site (for some reason, the version which currently downloads is still dated February not March?!?)

Comparing the January & February brochures confirms that the standard FR spec was downgraded in February. In the January brochure, on the page listing the FR additional features over the SE model, it states 'Front and rear parking sensors with Optical Parking System display', whilst on the same page in the February brochure, it simply states 'Rear Parking Sensors'. Additionally, in the February brochure, there is a new option listed, which is titled 'FR Assistance Pack'. The new option is £375.00 and is described in the February brochure as 'Includes front parking sensors, and rear view camera'

Anyway, for me, all is not lost. I spoke to the dealer first thing this morning. Fortunately, the dealer had not yet placed an order on Seat, so I have now added the 'FR Assistance Pack'to my order.

To be honest, the information coming from Seat needs to be clearer. Who knows whether Seat have actively highlighted the change in spec to all dealers - it is so easy to miss this change in spec & I can understand how my dealer still thought that Front/Rear with optical was still the standard (at least they now know!). Interestingly, if you configure an FR on the Seat website, there is no reference to the 'FR Assistance Pack', so the Seat website/configurator tool is clearly out of date.

Peter55 - when did you place your order? If in January, then I think you definitely have grounds to reject the order. I know that Seat reserve the right to make changes to spec, but personally, I would expect this to be minor changes only - the removal of two significant features, originally advertised at point of sale, but now chargeable, is not a 'minor change'. Could be a bit more tricky for you if you placed your order after 31st Janauary, but I would still think you had a right to complain. Best of luck in resolving your problem - if you need it as supporting evidence, I have a hard copy of the January brochure (should you need it, let me know)

Not sure but I purchased a FR on Monday that was already at the port - the dealer confirmed to me this morning that my car will come with front and rear parking sensors with opticals,

Can anyone find out roughly what build week my car would have been built? Sometime in January / February?

Hi

Glad to be of service

My car was built first week of March and ordered mid January

I have contacted Seat about this and they came back saying they are aware of this issue and have given their dealers a number of options to sort this, contacted my dealer and no such instructions have been given.. I'm now waiting to hear back from both Seat and Dealer, but I want the car I ordered

I would double check if I were you, dealers seem to be unaware of this change and Seat UK don't seem to no either until the car arrives

It's my first post, so hi to everyone. I ordered my Leon in February and the dealer was good enough to call me back a few weeks later to tell me about the front parking sensor and needing to get the additional pack. I'm glad they did as I am used to having front and rear sensors (although will miss the around view cameras of the current Qashqai).

Now just waiting for delivery in late June (at my request as that's when current car goes back).

The experience with the dealer has been excellent so far.

Thanks for this, but it does complicate my issue to find out Dealers were made aware of the change
All very frustrating, so far I've been offered £100 compensation to take my car without, which is ( and my dealer agrees) insulting

Mine was ordered sometime mid feb so I assume mine will be missing this. Will likely wait for delivery and kick up a fuss. Thanks to OP for making people aware :)

That's not suitable compensation IMO. I wonder if they can be retrofitted?

They can and it's more time consuming than difficult , but if it's anything like the rears if you ask seat to do it, they will charge you £300 + and farm it out to a local stereo installer to fit some £30 parking sensors that don't link to the ops display and the sensors will probably be as close a match to the body colour as what the installer happened to have kicking round his van.

They had better not try that with me

I too am in the same predicament
Ordered FR in January expecting delivery 1st March..It never came
Had call from dealer saying it will be available 24th so upon arrival at dealers noticed front sensors missing and only tone on the rear sensors..The dealer seemed confused and told us they will look into it..Next day had a call saying that in build week 9 Seat had supply issues with the front sensors..So they have offered £100 and free servicing if we except the car.We told them no and they instantly got back to us with an offer of £500 and retro fitting front sensors but they would not be optical..Still not sure what to do we have until Monday to decide what we want.I am going to contact Seat UK and ask them what is going on??If it's a case having to upgrade at a cost I will be asking for a new order with Seat stumping up the cost...If they refuse we will walk away...
Any comments on this will be appreciated....ps sorry for the long post...

£500 for front sensors with no ops, on an order you placed expecting to get front and rear sensors and ops.
They are taking the wee wee, I'd tell them I expect to pick my new car up with front and rear sensors with ops at no extra cost or I'm walking away and any expense incurred by me will be claimed from the dealer -I'm guessing that's who you have the contract with- will be recovered through the small claims court

Ffs they really take the pi*s, how hard can it be for seat head office to communicate these changes to their UK dealers and avoid all this confusion and bad feeling, after stuff like this am seriously considering not buying another Seat

Sorry to hear you are in the same boat.

I'm waiting for Seat and dealer to come back, but I have to wait until Tuesday.
If I'm offered the same as you, I think I'll walk, especially as there's no optics.
I might except a new order at no extra cost, but I'm not waiting another 12 week, because knowing it had arrived in the UK we sold our car. Now stuck without a car and where do you go to get a new car off the shelf
Do I ask for a loan car or compensation? All very upsetting and annoying, front, rear and optic display was high up in our buying decision

I'd be maybe looking at seeing if the ops can be retrofitted - I saw online it could be but unsure if that requires whole new sensors (I doubt it). When I get my phone call to say mine is ready for pickup I'll likely opt for the £500 compensation with front sensors and ensure I get first service thrown in.

Paid for pretty much every spec (although am starting to regret not getting SEAT Sound already!) and this is a real downer :(

Agreed, one phone call in February, explaining the changes, complete disregard for their customer, if this is what they're like before I even get the car, what hope if it goes wrong
