Front end vibration?

over the last couple of days vibration from the front wheels is becoming progressively worse

The ABS light came on the other day and the feedback from the front wheels was pretty bad (instant vibration)....as if trying to drive and it was gently braking at the same time

when the light came on, I pulled over, turned off the engine and back on again to see if the light would reappear and it didnt....appeared to clear itself:blink:

I have just run vagcom on it and there are no error codes

there was always a little bit of vibration due to the track density engine mounts, but this feels a lot worse

I have checked the KW's and they are not leaking. The ride just seems to be quite bumpy...as if I have got a flat tyre. I checked the tyre pressures the other night and they were all fine

it seems to be getting worse by the day. It is going into AMD on Tuesday luckily to get a number of issues sorted before it goes to Bills

what could be the possible cause of this? The car has done 86000 miles and is on a 2001 plate i.e. typical causes for excessive feedback or vibration through the steering wheel and a very clunky like feeling to it when I drive her??

could it be the bushes need replacing or something?

OR the only other theory is if the ABS is not working properly i.e a faulty sensor, despite their being no error codes, does this interfere at all when driving?

It could be crud built up on the ABS sensor ring, and thus giving false lock-up indications to the sensor...
If you take the wheel off, and look behind the disc/mount hub, there should be a perforated ring, which the sensor uses to detect a rotating wheel. Put on a dust mask, and give it a good blow out with an airline.
Hope this helps!

wheel bearing - ABS ring is attached to that & potentially could provide a dodgy signal to the ABS ECU.

I'd jack the car up & try & rock the wheel

thanks for the replies and help guys

just went out and checked it was not something as simple as a loose wheel. All the bolts are tight

I will take off the wheels tomorrow and look to see if it is a dodgy sensor or not

failing that, I will leave it with AMD to get it up on the ramps and see what they say
