FR TDi 170 Engine warning light on

Hi all,

went out in the FR today 30 mile round trip every thing OK, went out tonite started up as usual, per pre heating, waited for the lights to go out, all lights went out except the pre heating light which started to flash on/off continously .

I stopped the car and re started it to see if it was just a technical gremlin but no change

Things cannot get any worse I thought! already it has been assessed by my Seat dealer to requiring a new steering rack, new headlight, Turbo vacum solenoid valve and the bumpers to be repainted due to paint defects and colour mis matching.

What a first time Seat ownership experience, and all on a car that has covered only 1,600 miles

I am going to call Seat assistance in the morning to see what the problem is and to see if they can rectify it without another trip to the dealers

I know, but the problems I have had with this FR and the imense inconvenience it has caused makes me nervous about the pending replacement.

Well AA attended to my FR this morning....................................

Rigged up his diagnostic laptop to ascertain the problem and obtain the fault codes.....................NO FAULT CODES

AA tecnician calls his back up team for instructions on next course of action.
Technician comes back and says lets check the brake lights first, brake lights OK. Check fuse 32, Fuse 32 OK

Finally check oil level Oil level was low so topped up with a litre. Checked warning light, EXTINGUISHED

AA technician said the reason why they checked the brake lights is that the Leon has very complex electrics which are multi tasking

Can't believe the oil light did'nt illuminate instead of the "Check engine" warning light. Anyhow sorted for now, just waiting for the next problem to occur.

We know how you feel check out the ALARM thread - our was off the road for 7wks??!! we have formally written to SEAT UK and are waiting for a reply. ....................

I guess it can get worse

On the way into work this morning engine warning light started to flash on and off again, power was reduced to 25% of normal so max speed was reduced to 30mph.

Anyhow AA technician attended, never had a clue so my FR was recovered to Colliers Seat in Birmingham. I had a telephone call this afternoon to confirm that the problem was a "Sporadic" fault with the accelerator control switch which cannot be sourced and fitted until next week.

I subsequently phoned Seat Customer services, which was met with a response that was an absolute P*ss take, they (SEAT) basically did not want to know Seat believed it was the responsibility of their puny dealer network to resolve any unfortunate circumstances that should arise whilst your vehicle is under warranty.

So having covered only 1,600 miles, paid £17,000 and with 5 recognised major defects I am expected to give up my FR and use public transport until my FR is deemed driveable.

I am seriously considering cancelling my replacement FR and taking my money else where as the service and quality of the products supplied by SEAT on this performance are beyond belief and words.

I think I had better start looking for a replacement now .

Sorry to here it too. I know so many people who own seats and never had problems. I hope you get it sorted with the dealer...

Hi Triple D,

Yes my FR did go in for the bumpers and the steering rack and the headlight and the turbo solenoid valve and now its gone on its last journey (with me anyway!)

Tracy,
Looks like you got a Friday afternoon car built on the Friday the factory was finishing for a 2 week holiday break !
There is no excuse for the number of faults your FR has had and the dealer should have given you a courtesy car every time.
My partners daughter had some problems with her Altea and sadly Seat Head Office wanted nothing to do with it either.

So let us all know what you do decide to get if it isn't a replacement FR.

flashing coil light

I had similar electrical problem, coil light kept coming on and flashing which put car in safe (no power) mode. Pull over and reset ignition and it usually went away but soon came back again. I had it in the service centre twice, and they diagnosed a throttle fault, they reset it, and the problem went away for 2 weeks then came back again. I think I found a quick fix, pull over, turn off ignition and fully depress the accellerator pedal quickly and release quickly, then restart, fault should disappear. Mine has fixed itself now.
Hope the new FR (20days!) doesnt have the same problem.

being a realist, it's only to be expected that the odd car rolling off the production line will be a dud, as with any goods that are mass produced. it's then luck of the draw who gets that car ... this time round it was you.

however, when a brand new car has multiple issues, both the dealer AND the manufacturer should be doing all they can to help i.e. in partnership, keeping the customer informed along the way. if the issues are relatively easy fixes, i suppose it's reasonable (although inconvenient) to allow the dealer to rectify, however if the car's in and out like yours (multiple faults) they should organise a new replacement without being prompted by the customer.

and surely you were offered a courtesy car? if not that's bang out of order.
