FK coilovers (no go)

i ran fk's for years on my lupo's - same kit on 4 different cars.

if you look after them they do theyre job.

copper grease, and seal them and you should have no worries.

a monthly strip down and clean doest go a miss either

Oh dear I am not very put of buying coilovers thanks guys!! You have to strip them every month!? Who actually has no life and so much time they can do this?!
I don't even wash the car once a month and I am not confident mechanically to fit these myself let alone take them apart all the time and then pay god knows how much to have the alignment done every time!

i have to agree there!
i've got far better things to be doing than stripping down the suspension on my car!
thats crazy! for a setup costing over £400, i'd expect a lot better quality than that!
i've had KONI dampers on for nearly 2 years, no problems! same on a previous car!

those FK dampers shouldn't have leaked after a year, contact the manufacturer!

Thats what I would do. Send them all the pics with a copy of your invoice and see what they say. I would expect more from them TBH.

The warranty has run out so they won't do much they will probably send a polite letter stating they will take into account and thanks!

Yes I expect to have to clean then every now and then in the way people have described for the price. Are you meant to use copper grease, I assume whatever brand I was to buy would come with maintenance guides as to what to use?

Im just off out to clean and protect my coilovers now... I think if you look after them from the very start, and clean and protect them, then they will be fine...

Cant believe after a year your FK's looked like that... IIRC alot of the "cheaper" coilovers have 2 years warranty?

You dont need to remove them or even remove the wheel to clean them or adjust them, just jack the suspension up, get an old tooth brush some soapy water and some non-abrasive cleaner and just clean away gently, then move the adjusters down a couple of threads and back up, apply some grease, repeat.

Just do this every couple of months should only take an hour.

This is basicaly exactly what i dd to protect the threads but like i said it didnt stop the dampers from exploding!
lets hope the wieteks i have on now are a better setup! Certainly feel more comfy even before the dampes went

thats exactly what they said basicaly..... atleast they did do ma a reat deal on my new set

A BIG YES.
did drive like a loony with them for a year and a half with no problems.
if it is of any consolation Weitec is owned by KW.
So expect KW quality.
I would expect your Hicon GT to have the same internals as that of the KW variant 1.

Apparantly AP also use KW internals, but the bump stops are of a lesser quality.

I've had FK coils fitted for a while and one of the damper went. Had lots of copper grease on them had to clean them got real dirty but it made it so easy to move the adjusting nuts. Gave then a good clean with paint thinners (not ideal) got the wire brush and greased all the thread back up to protect it.

whats the difference in your turbos? isnt it you whos just got a hybrid turbo? i know thats the difference if so but surely you dont want to sell it already.
im now reconsidering getting any suspension upgrades acsept rear arb as thats a tad exspensive for how long they last also i think the cupra standard suspension is pretty good anyway.
