It seemed a good idea at the time when I put an M3 motor into my 328i when the original engine was toast, but the grief it caused in insurance costs mean that I would never do it again.

Secondly, and I don't mean to be harsh 'Butch', but if you're asking if a remap is an engine change, you certainly have a long way to go before considering major surgery like bolting on superchargers. Thats not a criticsm because I know we all start somewhere. Sadly, at 18 there are few ways to beat the insurance beast and modifying a car is only kicking it in the balls to make it angry. Save your cash for a couple of years and you'll be in a much better position. Best of luck mate.

a good friend of mine has supercharged his mini 1330.

but not with the 1.6 mini charger ( eaton m45) he used an eaton m90, (pushes twice the air thru it). as used on astons, big mercs etc as it used for size 3.2 to 5.0litre cars. the problems arose with belts, double gaskets and massive dished pistons to accept all the air then designing and arranging inlet pipe that has been wound with heater hose cos it kept freezing, has taken about 6 months of fettling to get running 17psi boost, does go well and is quicker than my 20vt to 60 but at the sacrifice of 15mpg at very best cruising at 55mph.

the mini charger also has wiring looms on it, bigger one doesn't so it will cost to get all ecu and looms running correctly.
by the way he has receipts for over 3k for engine work and he did most himself
