Fitting supercharger - please help

i want to fit a supercharger on a 1.6 mk1. The supercharger i am going to use is from a cooper s. I have been told by mates that there is a long list of other mods that need to happen such as throttle boddies, wiring looms, pistons etc.

Does ne1 have any cost-effective ideas? Is all this other stuff really necessary?

Easier to get a 1.8T motor (remap), with loom, ECU, intercooler and ancilliaries. Probably a lot cheaper and easier than trying to put a supercharger on the 1.6.

as above why super charge when there is a good 1.8t engine available that mods are endless

Is there any reason you want to keep your 1.6 leon? Just buy another leon that came with a 1.8T. So much easier and cheaper to insure.

dont waste your money, a 1.6 is not going to be fast anbd reliable.
for the sake of the 2-4k itll cost to buy and fit parts, plus remapping modified insurance and labour id sell the 1.6 and buy a cupra.

insurance is the problem with me as im only 18! thats y i want to supercharge my 1.6

Get a ibiza or Leon diesel with a remap, should be cheaper to insure and will have a decent amount of go.

Have you got a picture of the engine bay? I'm not sure there's space?

Certainly no it exists, so you would have to develop your own - which will cost more alone than the extra insurance for a cupra I'm sure.

s/charger, manifold/plenum, belt arrangement needs sorting, cams would need changing, engine management software, belts, gaskets,pulleys and other misc stuff, whole new exhaust system, labour for all above, Id say at least 3k.

You need a load of custom bits to mount the supercharger, supply it with oil plus an intercooler plus brakes, suspension, exhaust, mapping, engine internals, uprated clutch, gearbox.

Seeing as you can buy a leon cupra for under £4k why do you want to supercharge a 1.6? If it's a case of not telling the insurance, just buy one the same colour as you have now and swap the plates.

Nop I wouldnt risk not telling the insurance. Im just gonna have to convince my dad to let me go under his! he shudnt mind driving a turboed 1.8 lol although i'll practically live in it

where is the best place to look for a decent cupra at a good price? other than the usuals like ebay, autotrader etc.

to be honest here m8 get ya self a diesel and have it remapped as this would be less on insurance.
my lad as just brought a renault cilo 1.5DCi not a seat but it goes like stink
and is insurance was quite cheap.

excuse me for being stupid but does a remap mean replacing the engine?

no a remap is simply overwriting the existing software in the ecu for better performance.

Please excuse my harsh comment (i drank one to many tonight) but why do people insist on trying to mod 1.6 Leons??? It’s not a saxo or Vauxhall or god knows what...it’s a Seat with some prestige in the vag line...treat it as such. if you want performance go for a cupra!

Because they don't know better, fortunately for our young friend here, he did the sensible thing and popped over to seatcupra.net for some good advice.

I read one thing on here, that really made sense to me (think it was m0rk), the basic jist was, don't mod a car to make it into a car that you could buy.

It's not worth spending the money , you could spend the same money, have a better car, and still keep the residual so when you sell it you get more back.
