I’ve had my 02 LC, engine AUQ, since new and its remained standard all this time. Mainly because I changed jobs 2 years after I got it and now have to suffer the train, so do less that 1.5k a year.

Anyway, time has come for a few mods, so I spent the last week reading through the forums making my wish list broken down in stages to help cost and fitting order. (I hate putting things on only to take them off to get something else on!)

After a couple of hours splurging on the card, here is my stage 1 list on the way in the post. (This is the final list, so swapping things now is not in my plans)

  1. THS Engineering – FR3 Engine Mount System Details
  2. Forge Adjustable Quick Shift Details
  3. Forge 5 Piece Silicone Hose Kit Details
  4. Forge Turbo Intake Hose Details
  5. Carbonio Cold Air Intake Details
  6. Forge FMCL007P Diverter Valve Details
  7. Grounding Kit Details
  8. S3 Upper and Lower Strut Braces Details
  9. Prosport Stepper Guages Details

I have a couple of questions that I’m hoping you guys can help me out with

The above list is also the order I’m planning to fit things, all in one go, probably over a couple of days to avoid taking things on and off again. S3 last so I can judge the effects of FR3 first.

Q1 – Would anyone change the order above and why?

Q2 – Can you think of anything else I should add to the list at this stage? Budget will cover another £200ish

Q3 – For items 2 & 3, does anyone have a complete list of hose clip sizes I would need? Going for the JCS Hi Grip stainless steel.

All comments welcome.
Cheers.

I've just got one to and am sorting out my first mods, so far I've done.

Cambelt, full oils and filters service inc platnium plugs to make sure everythings running its best.

Got a Foorge 007 valve, a green panel filter and bigger induction pipe on its way. Saving for a AMD remap and exhaust package.....This in my opinion is going to make the biggest difference to the overall car.

Next on my list is the uprated engine mount and a set of hot-tuning coilovers to increase looks and help with traction........maybe a set of 18's to.

Finally I'm planning to fit the facelift bumpers and sideskirts as this is looking a farly easy bolt on job that I can possible do on the cheap :D

That should do it for me......although those liquid displays are looking quite tasty

Hoping to have all this done by the end of the summer.

I did think about that mate but seeing as the remap will take it to about 210 without the front pipe I've decided to do the other mods first :)

Can anyone help out with question 3 in my first post regarding hose clip sizes?
I was hoping to order some today so I had something fun to do this bank holiday weekend!
Tried asking JKM Performance where I got them from, but they didn't know either! lol

I'm still wondering if the THS rubber is stiff enough. My DBM is 90% stiffer than stock and is just about right, however the THS is only 30% stiffer... Just a thought.

DK - I need the O.D. of the pipes, so unless I take them all off, not really. I just thought with so many people doing this mod, at least one person could have a quick look at the order they placed for clamps because I can't find many kits that include the clamps. I've come to the conclusion that no one here actually does the mods themselves and waits for the silicon fairy! ;)

lordgibbness - Won't know till I fit them. Got the whole system, not just the DBM, so combined I'm sure it will all work out OK. I've read enough posts reporting the vibration transfered inside the car with 90% is not good, so didn't want it that stiff. I'll let you know once its all fitted.

1. Go for the THS hoses, the upper hoses and the TIP. alot cheaper, half the price and i know they are as good quality if not more reinforced and everybody else who has them will tell you the same, so save your pennies there.

2. the grounding kit is a waste of time, and looks a mess. but it is a total waste of time.

3. the carbonio air intake isnt worth it, run a neoprene cold air feed ducting from the airbox to the front of the car by a front bumper grille. and a high flow quality panel filter, k n, green, pipercross etc.

4. quick shift can make the gears feel a bit notchy

get a good quality hi grip clip like JCS Hi grip, cheap ones just wont do the job and will round off and not tighten up.

you will need some to fit an OD of around 63-64mm and some like on the inlet to fit 70mm od, the tip is around 50-60. the airbox on mine is a 90mm clip. the rest of the hoses are around 60ish. you will find the clips will fit anything between 50 70 then 60 80 etc etc so a good asortment will be ok.

I think the comments you read were actually regarding the poly mounts that people have used from powerflex or forge. I specifically looked for good quality rubber dbm and have been very impressed with the track density (+90%) from INA - and most people reccommend it over the street density (+25%).

The comments were a mixture of everything really which is why I settled on the FR3 kit. As long as the wheel hop is reduced with the THS kit, I'll be happy. If it doesn't do the job well enough, I can always update the DBM at a later date and put it down to live and learn!

BTW - What did you torque your DBM to? I posted up some settings on another thread that I got from the THS and was told it was wrong for the DBM. Have a look here and tell me what you think

Thanks man, just what I was after. I'd already decided on the JCS kit, now the order is in. All I really wanted was to get it delivered before Easter so I could spend the long weekend working on the car.

Also, I noticed alot of people knock the Carbonio CAI. Is that because it doesn't work or that its just too expensive? Personally, I like the sound.

I know I keep on about this but after modding my airbox I think all induction kit's are over priced.

So if money wasn't in the equation and you had the choice of a modded airbox and a CAI, would you still go for the airbox?

Probabley I'd do the airbox again, It's more OE looking, I did try a carbon fiber BMC CDA and it just did'nt look right apart from it causeing other problems.

Fair enough, looks not important to me I must admit, although I am interested in the other problems you mention.
