Don't know whats up with it..........

At random times over the last three nights, it has gone off for no apparent reason. :scream:

2:30am on Saturday morning, 6:30 yesterday and 7:30 today. The thing is it only goes off once. If there was a short / problem somwehere, I would have expected it to go off regularly.

It is in a locked and secure garage, so its not as if some toerag is winding me up by deliberately setting it off.

I have checked the boot in case it is damp (Saw the 'rear washer hose' threads which can leak) and it is bone dry.

All doors, windows, etc are shut and I have even switched off the volumetric sensors just in case it was them - it wasn't.

Is there any way to find out which door / boot / bonnet is triggering it, so I can at least narrow it down a bit?

And get to SLEEP !!!! :bored:

I had this problem it was a bloody nightmare. I had to eventually leave it unlocked for a week until the dealer got it in as I couldn't get the double lock thing to work.

My back washer hose was disconnected but it wasn't leaking all over the boot. You woudn't have noticed. Check to see if your back washer jet is functioning normally, if it#s only squirting out slightly it may be disconneted partially like mine. My boot open light on the dash was permanently on even though the boot was closed see my earlier thread here . The water was shorting out the boot lock and the car kept 'thinking' the boot was open and setting the alarm off.

Hope this helps

Try setting it, but before you do, press the button down on the right, below the driver seat belt.

This turns off the volumetric internal sensors, if they are faulty, it could be them making the alarm go mad, until you can get it fixed, its worth trying.

NOTE

It only disables it for one set, so everytime you exit the car, press the button before shutting the door, and then set the alarm.

Give it a try and see.

Z,

Tried that, and it still went off.

I have managed to get the double-turn lock thingy working and have the alarm off for now - although the garage has a separate alarm, before anyone tries to come round and nick it :D

I haven't had the "boot open" light on mine to date, and I shall check how powerful (or not) the rear wash is.

I sprayed a bit of WD40 into the boot lock area, and also onto a little microswitch I found at the front, which I think is activated by opening the bonnet. It seems in a bit of a silly place, as it looks like it could quite easily get covered by a load of crud, and stop it working properly.

I shall have to have a go this weekend leaving it armed and see if it still goes off, or if the things I have done have cured it.

just park a few hundred yards from your house, and you'll sleep fine.

:hammer:

I had my alarm go off while I was driving the other week!!!

How crap is that!, if the keys are in the ignition and the engines running why the feck do I want the alarm to go off! huh?

As I have had this problem myself this weekend.

The WD40 on the microswitch at the front seems to have cured it.

You'll find it in the hole where the "loop" of the bonnet goes into. Looks like a dinky piece of kinked silver metal (horizontal) on a small black box, with a tiddy red button under the metal, or a "microswitch" for those technically minded ones out there....

Squirt this liberally with WD40, then go "clicky" with it for a few seconds to work it in. Then give the bonnet a damn good slam.

The alarm hasn't gone off prematurely since............. :D

Exactly the same for my old, old MK1V Golf 1.6SE dealer had the car over a week before they worked it out.

Well, my alarm still seems to be working OK.

but my mate's rear washer hose has come off........

He had this happen on his last car, a Golf GTI (W reg) and has just recently happened on his 52 plate Lupo GTI

He noticed it, as his "Boot open" light kept coming on.

Seems like it's spreading.......

Nope. Dead dry and calm, and it did it on a few nights running.

In a locked garage.....

I thought about some external goings on (e.g. wind and such like making the garage do odd things) but also ruled this out, as it still did it when I switched the ultrasonics off....

Well, just an update to let people know what went on.

Went into my dealer (Ted Johnson's at Barnsley) who plugged it into the diagnostics to see if any errors had been thrown out with the alarm keeping going off.

Nothing. Nowt. Zip. Diddly squat.

However, he said that he'd had one similar a while ago, and it turned out to be dodgy ultrasonics, so they ordered some for me on warranty.

Good job they were on warranty, too. the cost of them is mad! For one side its somethng like £130, and the other is about £60. Odd, but true.

Anyhew, they were fitted on Saturday and so far (finds large lump of wood to touch) it hasn't gone off !

So, if you have ruled out the leaky rear washer hose and dodgy bonnet switch, try getting your dealer to fit some new ultrasonics. And then maybe you can get a decent night's sleep too........ :sleepy:

I think this is exactly the same problem as a work colleague's Audi A4, the alarm keeps going off, however if I hit the disable interior sensors then it stops, so she will need new ones also.

However she did have her window open slightly, will this set the alarm off?

Quite probably, as they are just ultrasonics, not the fancy microwave ones you get on the likes of a Clifford. AFAIK, ultrasonics can be set off by the wind, but microwaves can't (especially useful for open top cars.)

The thing with mine was that even if I DID press the button to switch the ultrasonics off, the alarm still used to go off - which is why I originally ruled them out. :(

My leons currently driving me mad, i've had 3 nights interrupted sleep (each night it starts going off at 3:20, odd how consistent it is, then at random times after), but usually not in the day. However its been going off frequently this morning since 7am. I've tried wd40 everywhere i can think of (boot catch, bonnet catch, door catches), checked for insects, and slammed the bonnet and boot.

Could someone help me with a few questions:

Double turn - is that locking it with key then locking it again?
The microswitch to the bonnet - i couldnt locate it but sprayed the whole catch area, do i need to find it to clean it
remote locking - i was sold the car without the plastic tag with the number on to order another key, and my remotes stopped working (yes it has a new battery), so how do i get a working remote for it if it is the security feature of using the key instead of the remote?

Thanks
