Thought it might be worth pointing out, that with the current exchange rates (approx 2USD - 1GBP) now is a good time if you're thinking of buying any VAG-COM stuff from the US.

I used to have a home-made cable, and was limited to the old 311.2 version of VAG-COM, but I've just ordered an upgrade to the pukka HEX-USB-CAN kit.

Should arrive today, then it's time to go and play with all the new features I've been missing out on :funk:

£150 isnt too bad for the USB kit and the software.

But then you'll be looking at £180 after the tax.

Shame my ebay lead dosent work on Vista :(

Which driver did you get?

Have you a link?

I can detect the lead but cant get it to work with the car.

Sorry for the off topic nature of this post!

Tried that driver.

Had some temporary success in that I connected with the car and got the the initial readings from the car. However VagCom then crashed.

Now whenever I go into it and it begins the scan in just freezes and Vista tells me the programme is not responding.

Tried numerous reinstalls etc, but not helped by the fact VagCom has no uninstall option!

Even more frustrated than before as it appears the lead and VagCom do work together but one or other of them has now got the @rsehole!

Also if I click the OBD-II button it tells me that the lead is functional. Not sure if this means anything.

We're good, but we're not clairvoyant. Those older versions of VAG-COM which work with 3rd-party leads obviously were released long before any version of Vista was available, even to developers.

The current version (704 as of this writing) works perfectly on Vista, even the 64 bit version (which can be quite nasty as to what it does and does not allow).
