esp light

hi was driving home from work today and the traction control light came on and stayed on when i switched off it turned off but when i drove again it came back on any helpn please

could be the maf, (yes i know it makes no sense that the esp lights up if it goes)

or abs sensor possibly..

does the abs still work? does traction control still work?
i take it from your description if you park up turn ignition off, then start the car but dont move, its not on?
it only comes on when you drive away?
if it doesnt come on when ticking over only, does it light up if you rev the engine?

Hi,

Another sounds stupid reply! I had exactly the same problem last week. It turned out that I had a split intercooler to dump valve pipe. Replaced this and problem cured! Basically when accelerating hard and the traction control was trying to interupt the engine was not responding as expected hence the ESP light came on and stayed on to warn that all was not right. Hope this helps!?

i once slowed my car down to 20mph in the 6th gear but forgot to down shift.
as the car was on the point of stalling, i down shifted late and this caused the ESP light to come on.
depressing the ESP switch had no effect on turning the ESP light off.
so i turned off the engine and put it back on and the ESP light turned off.
