epc and engine warning lights

hi everyone, i recently purchased a beautiful 2001 cordoba signo which i'm over the moon with, however i have one qualm which hopefully someone will be able to clear up for me, when i put the key in the ignition and turn once (without starting the engine) aswell as the alternator light staying illuminated, the epc and diagnosis (engine shaped one) lights also stay on, however when the engine is started they turn off again, is this normal on this model or do i have some sort of fault???? any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
