engine smoke upon startup

Hi, Ive recently had to do an engine swap with my CUPRA R AMK and the new engine I have replaced it with, as soon as you turn the ignition, produces masses upon masses of smoke from the exhaust and within a minute fills the garage. After switching off the engine, and checking the oil level in the block, its practically empty?
what could be causing the engine to burn that much oil that quickly? given that it seems to be running smoothly? by the way the colour of the smoke is a light grey colour but theres masses of it?

Was the engine seen running before you swapped it over?

no it wasnt! very bad school boy error, the person who sold it to me guaranteed it works, however as expected he cannot be reached now? is it possible its a blocked breather pipe? would there be a quick way of finding out?

Get a leak down test done on it.
