Hello, I own a 2007 MK2 Cupra 2.0L TFSI. I have had a misfire on Cylinder 2 for a while now. Changed Coilpacks, spark plugs but still misfires. It is not the fuel injector. Had it checked out by my garage and been told it is the piston and piston ring. He called his guy who does engine rebuilds and the guy has quoted me £5,500 which is more than the car is worth!!

He said that this job requires replacement of rocker arms, camshaft pulleys, all 4 pistons and piston rings, cylinder head, new head gasket, and new timing chain kit. Need expert advice please about are all these replacements necessary if the main problem is the piston? And am i better off looking for a replacement engine?

Thank you in advance!!!

Just scrap the car it’s not worth paying £5500 to have an engine rebuild on one of these. Speaking from experience i did the same thing spend that money on a better example of a mk2
