Had a diagnostic done last week on 2001 20V 1.8 T Leon. The garage man said I needed new coils and plugs. So bought those from TPS Cardiff & fitted them yesterday. Engine seemed to be running better when I started it up, but checked oil level at same time. There was hardly any oil in it, and the old plugs were filmed with a layer of oil when I took them out. Last night I took car for a run to Cardiff down the motorway. It was OK for a while but then started missing and when I stopped it was really bad!!! Worried to death that it could be something really major, as I'm out of work at the moment & don't have any cash to lay out. I did find some oil on a pipe just below the engine while I was checking, but don't know what that could be. Any suggestions ?????

I hope you filled the car up with oil before you went on that run down the motorway!

It sounds like a gaskets gone. Drag it to a good mechanic is my advice.

Thanks for the reply, mate. Yes, put oil in it before I went, Blew some white smoke at first but that went, so thought eeverything was OK. What gasket do you think has gone - head, valve or other ?

Thanks Mark. It's really weird !!. It was fine on the motorway at speed but problem started when I got off the motorway. Same coming back - no problems on the motorway. Also used hardly any petrol yesterday, as compared to recent fuel consumption. Got me beat !!!!

Very unusualy for the HG or or valve stem oil seals to go on a 20vt. Also if you have a misfire or poor spark then the ecu might dump more fuel in to try to create a better burn but once fixed the ecu will re-calculate that amount thus bringing your mpg back up.
