Had a new turbo fitted yesterday and it seems to have done the trick - no dodgy owl/distant police siren type noises.

The garage said it was the first one they'd had to fit....

I too have suffered from the dreaded 'moo'!!!

Car went to the dealer last month for its 10k service, and do you think it made a noise when I tried to demonstrate to the service manager that all was not right??

Did it feck!!! Typical!!

Anyway, waited for an hour for the service to be told that their teccies found that it was the boost regulating solenoid. Part was ordered, fitted, and we're noise free, for now!

Oh, and double bonus(!), got done by the rozzers for speeding on the m/way.... :cartman:

Will this noise cause some other problems? Or is it just for the hassle of it being there?

I ask this because i may say that i have been noticing it too. However if it doesnt cause any mechanical problems i won't be going to the dealer just to sort this out.

Rather ill wait for the 30K service.

Thought I'd post this up just in case other people might be experiencing the same problem since a bulletin has been released about it by Seat.

A while back I started to get this weird 'ook' (or moo..) type noise coming from the engine whenever the car's been in a lot of traffic (ie stop/start traffic - think London in rush hour!).

It was intermittent because once you got going and at speed, it disappeared.....

The noise was most noticeable when you blip the accelerator to bring the revs just over 1k, and also when you were changing gears either from 1st to 2nd or 2nd down to 1st (basically when you take your foot off the accelerator and the revs drop when engaging the clutch).

Anyways, took it round to the local dealer and they originally narrowed the noise down to a recirculation valve at the back of the engine which seemed to rumble when the noise appeared:

However, after changing that it didn't solve the problem.

Finally took it back to the dealer last week and it seems a bulletin was just released about the problem (i've been told the bulletin even has an attached sound clip!).

They ended up replacing the turbo valve pipe.
Was told by the mechanic that although the pipe was replace, there might be a faint noise, but since then I've not had the noise problem.

BTW, bulletin no. i've got written down is TPL 2 2014935/1TO
Part no replaced. 03G131055AR

Hope this helps anyone else having the same problem! :D

What's the service bulletin ref?

As above!

Then i'll let it be and wait for the next service.

It isn't that annoying to me. And no matter what we do, there will always be something making some noise. In my first days as a driver i used to thought that a car had to be completely silent. Nowadays, i learnt to survive among them...

I'm glad some ppl have sorted out their noise problem with the service bulletin ref I posted.

Like mrsixstring my noise hasn't completely disappeared, you can still hear a slight sound but only if you're really concentrating on hearing it and the car has been worked hard!

TBH, since the noise was fixed I'm enjoying my FR a helluva lot more......!!!

They need to replace the N75 valve (boost control valve) Its circled in the picture. If someone revs the car you can feel it vibrating as it makes the noise.

IF that doesn't do it then , bulletin no. i've got written down is TPL 2 2014935/1TO
Part no replaced. 03G131055AR replaves the turbo valve pipe.

I took my Leon to W. Livingstones in Uddingston.

The Foreman came out for a test drive in my car and said the owl noise was completely normal, and alot of cars had it.
He said seat would do nothing for me, unless it had broke down or there was a loss of power.

Problem is my car is out of warranty with it being a 55 plate. The garage i bought it from gave me a 3 month warranty, and seen as they are down in england, they allow me to use a garage up here to fix the problems.

The noise is doing my head in! Slow driving around town is the most noticeable, or when changing down gears preparing for a roundabout.

Surely the seat garage were bullshitting me? Is there anything i can say about it?

All i need is for SEAT to say the turbo needs replaced and the garage i got the car from will do the work!

Its a long trip for a diagnosis!
Thanks for the help.

And my sound is the owl one. Also sounds like distant sirens too.

I took my car to the garage this morning and one of the mechanics came with me on a drive. He said the noise is noticible but said that all turbo cars did that! Ugh!!!! I told them about the Seat Bullitins but they asked if I could leave my car overnight and that they can check in the morning. So here we go again.....
